"The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" is the first single off the upcoming Red Hot Chili Peppers album, I'm with You, which will be released on August 26, 2011 in multiple European countries and in the United States four days later. It is their first single released since "Hump de Bump" in 2007 and the first single released with new guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer. The single was released to radio on July 15, 2011 three days earlier than expected due to an accidental leak. The digital download will be available on July 18 while the CD single is due for release four days later.

Song background

Singer Anthony Kiedis stated that when he first heard the song he thought of it as a B-side, however when people told him it was the best thing they were working on, he decided to make it a song.

When asked about who exactly Maggie is, Kiedis said that he is not about to reveal his inspirations. "It's just a collection of memories and people along the way that had maybe left my consciousness until I heard that music, and then they kind of came dancing back into my consciousness, and out the old pen onto the paper. "Names have been changed to protect the innocent. Although there is a Maggie, I realized later. There's two Maggies, actually."

Music video

On June 23, 2011 it was announced that hip hop artist, Kreayshawn was picked to direct the music video. Kreyshawn told MTV that she was shocked when the band's label contacted her management about directing the video. She said she went to film school but never thought it would translate to something this big.

Leak

The band had planned on releasing the single on July 18, 2011 to radio and as a digital download however plans changed on July 15, 2011 when the single was briefly made available through the band's website but quickly removed. Someone was able to record the song fast enough and moments later the single was being spread throughout the internet. The band's label decided to go ahead and officially release the single to radio and released the high quality version to the website of KROQ. The single has been streamed over 182,000 times in the two days following its release.
