Sanari Visweswara Matham is situated at Komati Veeedhi situated behind Kota Durga Goddess. Sri Sanari Visweswara born around 240 years ago in Palakonda. His arrival is prophesized by none other than Sri Veera Brahmendra Swamy around 500 years ago who said that " Mother Earth would witness the arrival of Lord Siva in the form of Sri Sanari Visweswara who would become immortal but possesses the human body and living for ever to protect his disciples and he would show the third eye to one and all". Although Sri Veera Brahmam said much about him only a little reflected here. Sri Sanari Visweswara preached to the world how a Gruhastu can reach to pinnacle in Sadhana without going anywhere for the objective of Sadhana. Today his matham at Komathi Veedhi attracts many disciples from all quarters of the society and a lineage to many who would like to emulate. It is also a samadhi mandir of Annapurna matha wife of Sri Sanari Visweswara.

Palakonda or Palkonda (Telugu: పాలకొండ) is a town, Revenue Division and a mandal in the Srikakulam district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.[1]

Palakonda mandal is bordered by Veeraghattam, Seethampeta, Burja and Regidi Amadalavalasa mandals of Srikakulam district.

Geography

Palakonda is located at 18°36′00″N 83°45′00″E / 18.6000°N 83.7500°E / 18.6000; 83.7500.[2] It has an average elevation of 44 meters (147 feet).

Demography

According to the Imperial Gazetteer of India[3], Palkonda Taluk was in Vizagapatm district with a total area of 502 square miles (1,300 km2). The cultivated land is irrigated by the Nagavali River. The Agency area contains about 56 square miles (150 km2) of Reserved Forest. The population in 1901 was 215,376 compared with 201,331 in 1891. There were two towns Palkonda and Razam and 334 villages. The Agency area had population of about 11,000 people, chiefly Savaras living in 106 villages. The greater part of Taluk was held on Ryotwari and belongs to Rajas of Bobbili and Vizianagram.

It was within Ganjam District of Orissa (Odisha) state till 1950 when Srikakulam district was formed.

Assembly constituency

Palakonda is an assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh reserved for Scheduled Castes. There were 120,726 registered voters in this constituency in 1999 elections.Now from 2009 onwords the Assembly Constituency reservation changed to S.T.

Features

The Area Hospital(100 in-patients beds), Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad is located at Palakonda serves people of town and village around the town.[5] Palakonda is famous for its devotional places. There are two famous temples and two famous churches in the town.

Jagannadha Swami Alayam

Jagannadha swami of Puri in Orissa god was established here in Palakonda. This temple was built centuries ago and very much famous for its "Ratha Yatra".

This is a famous historical temple. Before independence this area was ruled by Jathapu rajas belong to tribal Zamindars. In 1755 the raja Venkatapathi raju paid Rs.55,000/- as revenue to French Govt. through vizianagaram rajas. The zamindhars lost all their properties due to internal family conflicts (more than 20 years the court case ran in Madras high court) after that battle between Vijayanagaram and Bobbili Samsthanams against "lord Bussi of French Govt. with support of vizianagaram rajahs. Every thing was ruined and only 2 lakes and remnants of their houses and this durga temple remain at present. Krushna vallabha Dash, an Oriya Priest from Orissa and a devotee of Durga started worshiping here in 1947. People around Palakonda worshiped the goddess, Ghatalu (puja Bindelu) with turmeric water and this was the main attraction of folk people. Vijayadasami is the main Thai Pongal (festival) of this temple. KrupaSindhu Das son of Krushna vallabha Dash rehabilitated the temple to its original state. He took care of the temple followed by his three sons Purna Chandra Das,Sarath Chandra Das,Venkateshwara Das till 2001. After that, the Govt. of Andhra pradesh take into their possision.

Every year, Dasara navaratrulu (a festival of 9 days) are being conducted in Palakonda with great pomp and show in admiration of Goddess Kota Durga. This event has great cultural importance to this town and the mandals around it.
