Mayo Chiki! (まよチキ!) is a Japanese light novel series written by Hajime Asano with illustrations by Seiji Kikuchi. The first volume of the novel was published on November 21, 2009. As of June 24, 2011, 8 volumes have been published by Media Factory under their MF Bunko J label. A manga adaptation by Niito began its serialization on October 2010 in the Media Factory's seinen manga magazine, Comic Alive. It was revealed that it will be made a spin-off manga of the series called Mayo Mayo! (まよマヨ!) on Kadokawa Shoten's bishoujo magazine, Nyantype. An anime adaptation was announced, and started airing on July 8, 2011. Mayo Chiki! is a abbreviation of Mayoeru Shitsuji to Chikin na Ore to (迷える執事とチキンな俺と, lit. The Wavering Butler and Myself the Chicken).

Plot

The story revolves around the life of a 17 year old young man named Subaru Konoe, who is the butler of one of his classmates, Kanade Suzutsuki. The story has a dramatic turn when a boy named Kinjiro Sakamachi discovers Subaru's well-protected secret : that "he" is actually a girl.

Characters

Kinjirō Sakamachi (坂町近次郎, Sakamachi Kinjirō)

Voiced by: Satoshi Hino

The protagonist of the story. A second year high school student who discovers Konoe's secret. He suffers gynophobia in which his nose bleeds whenever a girl touches him, he reveals the cause to be his mother and sister practicing their wrestling moves on him on a daily basis for 10 years, he states his nose bleeds when a girl touches him because his body developed the reflex because he believed his mother and sister would stop beating him up once he started bleeding (as his blood would ruin the carpet). As a result can take pain well due to his everyday awakening from his sister, Kureha Sakamachi, with a series of beatings. He was forced to sign a contract with Kanade Suzutsuki to not reveal the secret of Subaru Konoe and find a way to cure his gynophobia. He hates it when people call him his full name as, due to the Japanese culture of putting the famuliy name before their given name, it creates a pun on the english word chicken as his full name is Sakamachi Kinjirō.

Subaru Konoe (近衛スバル, Konoe Subaru)

Voiced by: Yuka Iguchi

A third year high school student who works as a butler for the Suzutsuki family. She dresses like a male due to the family circumstance of a must to have a male from her family to serve Kanade's family. Because of her being the only child, she has to cross-dress, her physical features makes her believed by everyone to be a boy until one day, Kinjirō Sakamachi accidentally discovers her secret. It is revealed that she is often teased by Kanade Suzutsuki, she is very bad at naming things such as fighting moves and is aware of it. She is in love with Kinjirō and attempts to confess to him in novel volume 5, but because of her shyness it came out as "want to be friends." After telling Kanade that she confess to Kinjirō, but because of her shyness she failed, Kanade promised to help with Subaru's confession. Subaru is the fan of the "lost sheep". Special skills is "butler knuckle strike" and "END OF EARTH".

Kanade Suzutsuki (涼月奏, Suzutsuki Kanade)

The single daughter of the high school's principal, who, on the outside, behaves well like a rich man's daughter. On the inside, she is revealed to be quite sadistic and threatens Kinjirō on his greatest fear and using his gynophobia to make him suffer. However, she did give thoughts about finding a way to cure his gynophobia.

Kureha Sakamachi (坂町紅羽, Sakamachi Kureha)

Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa

Kureha is the youngest sister of Kinjirō, who is a first year in high school and loves martial arts. After watching and following Kinjirō and Konoe, believing him a male pervert cross-dresser, attacks Konoe to reclaim Kinjirō, only to be quickly defeated in turn. After this incident, still believing her a male, she has fallen in love with Konoe, much to Kinjirō's chargrin.
