What is Go?

Go (), known in Chinese as weiqi (simplified Chinese: ; traditional Chinese: ; pinyin: wéiqí; Wade-Giles: wei ch'i) and in Korean as baduk (hangul: 바둑), is an ancient board game for two players that is noted for being rich in strategy despite its simple rules.

Barnstar Award

I think you more than deserve this!! - Ecjmartin (talk) 19:43, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Special Barnstar
This is awarded for your excellent suggestion as to how to resolve the problem posed by the extreme length of the Coronation article. Your superb idea, and the work you did to help bring it to fruition, have solved a longstanding dilemma. Thanks, and major kudos!! Ecjmartin (talk) 19:43, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Very kind of you. Thanks for the thought & encouragement. However I think the main plaudits should go to yourself for your past & continuing work on the articles. Trafford09 (talk) 12:01, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I posted this two days ago on my page, but on the chance that you might not have seen it, I'm posting it here, too:
You're welcome, but the idea for the division was yours--and an excellent idea it was--and thus, I believe you fully deserve the credit. Thanks again, and thanks for your words here! -- Ecjmartin (talk) 15:41, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese characters

I would like to invite you to discuss the addition of section Appraisal and criticism to article Chinese character before engaging in multiple reverts. As it now stands, this section does not seem to contain anything more than a random factoid, and needs to either be expanded into an explanation of foreign concepts of Chinese characters, or deleted as irrelevant to the content of the article. Thanks. I've commented on the article's talk page. Trafford09 (talk) 01:24, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome

TOTD

Hiya. Did you alter the TOTD for 19 July, to suggest adding {{totd-tomorrow}} to one's user page?

Trouble is, it refers to "featured article", whereas I guess it should read "tip of the day".

Am I right? Trafford09 (talk) 12:18, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, it appears to have been wrong from the start, and according to the list at Wikipedia:Tip of the day, it appears to be intended to be about tommorrow's featured article. Thank you for pointing out the error. Ouch, it's been in error since 2006. Here's the repaired tip:
Preview Tomorrow's Featured Article

To monitor the upcoming featured article so that you can make last minute improvements to it, place {{Wikipedia:Today's featured article/{{tomorrow|long}}}} on your user page.

Thank you for the heads up. I didn't get to it in time for it to do anyone any good this time around. But at least it will show up correctly next year.  :) The Transhumanist 00:13, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Trafford09, get your facts right. Xianxian NIU IS (3p) and married to Michael Redmond (9p) ... her sister Lili NIU is 5p. 114.36.29.87 (talk) 01:45, 3 August 2011 (UTC)shenzy (114.32.55.127)[reply]

Hi 114.32.55.127 (shenzy?). Thanks for alerting WP that some information may be wrong or missing. Edits are welcomed. The only reason I reverted your edit was that, whilst I believe you, factual edits need to be verifiable. In other words, they need a wp:reliable source. If you can supply a website with the information in it (pref. in English), then please re-add the info. whilst properly citing that website. (Or, leave me the website here & I'll add the cite in.) Meanwhile, I'll mark the 5p as suspect.
Thanks again for the info. & happy editing. Best wishes, --Trafford09 (talk) 07:33, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HRW changes

Wish me luck. I was wp:being bold, and basically making "HRW" into a redirect to Human Rights Watch,

as suggested some time ago by another editor, in HRW's Talk page.

My cunning master plan involved the following:

  • Change "HRW (disambiguation)" (initially a redirect to "HRW") to "HRW (temp)".  Done.
  • Change its Talk page accordingly.
  • Change "HRW" (initially a list of 3 different HRWs) to "HRW (disambiguation)".  Done.
  • Change its Talk page accordingly.
  • Change "HRW (temp)" to "HRW" and make it a redirect to Human Rights Watch.  Done.
  • Change its Talk page accordingly.
  • Check the integrity of the changes, incl. what links to HRW etc..  Done - well - sort of - too many to change, for me and now,

but I think there's no problem (let me know if you have advice or concerns - ta).

If my plan had a flaw (as I was treading new ground), please let me know, here - thanks. Trafford09 (talk) 22:33, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
