Philosopher

I seriously doubt that Chris Martin, philosopher should be part of this article; it's surely self-promotion. Especially since the section was written by User:Chrisjwmartin himself. Tried removing it and was rebuffed. Gareth Wyn 21:27, 8 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Apologies Gareth - I created the page at the request of contemporaries before we'd read the advice not to create one's own page - I'd have got someone else to submit my text had I known. We simply thought that the subject was best positioned to sum their processive content. However, since their attention was drawn to it, they have added other aspects such as my artistic work which I (modestly) hadn't intended to mention, so fret not - worldly editing is editing my world for you.

"Dry Your Eyes"

Err, 'scuse, but he didn't actually write Dry Your Eyes, he just appeared on an early version which he (or his record company) then refused to release. See this for proof:

'I wrote the track and I thought that he (Martin) would sound really good on it. I asked him to do it and he did. After that I don't really know. I don't think his record company liked it. But maybe he didn't like it. On the day he was (happy with it). Well, maybe he wasn't, maybe he was lying to me and he walked out going 'This is not working'. But it wasn't massive stress. It would have been nice, but we've re-recorded it and it sounds great.'

Tenor

Chris Martin can't be classified as a tenor. Voice classification is not possible in popular music, since singers rarely receive classical training. I removed the sentence that said he is a tenor. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Luistamez (talk • contribs) .

I've put the word tenor back on the article because it doesn't matter if it's classical music or pop, voice classification is the norm in all forms of music. The moment you hear one person sing, you can classify his range almost immediately, especially on pop artists, since these rarely have an extraordinarily wide vocal range. (Crazy chap)

Chris Martin would in fact be a baritone. he is able to reach higher registers only due to his masterful use of falsetto.

Highest I've heard him go without falsetto is a high G, and that's only recently. That's at the top of a Baritone's range, he's nowhere near high tenor/alto, especially when you consider how low he can sing as well, at least a low G, but it doesn't sound weak down there so he probably still has a couple more notes. Chris Martin is indeed a Tenor singer, that's why I changed it initially from the incorrect classification of Baritone. You are right to say that he does sing in the falsetto range a lot and also that he can sing some lower notes but that doesn't change the fact that his average range is to be found in the tenor register.

I spotted Chris on his own in the Virgin Atlantic departure lounge, returning from LA to Heathrow on 24th April 2007. (My son got his autograph.) Is Chris planning a solo career? Thegn 10:07, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Ambidextrous?

According to the article, "Martin is ambidextrous; he writes with his left hand, plays the guitar the orthodox way, and draws with his right hand."

Is that considered to be ambidextrous? It says nothing about writing with both hands or drawing with both, simply that he uses a different hand for different activities. And what does it mean about playing the guitar "the orthodox way?" Guitars can be either left- or right-handed, so this statement should be removed, and I will be removing it. Alleged hypocrisy

Shouldn't there be at least some reference to the alleged hypocrisy of Chris Martin, concerning environment, Fairtrade, etc...? There are thousands of websites found by Google on this matter. Clarinet?

Chris Martin can not read music

I gave a source that could not be any clearer, I gave you the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeJumiH5aF0 At 0:08 seconds he says "I can't read music" I couldn't be any clearer than that. And how is it controversial? Are you saying that wikipedia is deliberately deleting stuff because it's controversial, yet it could be true?

Muse influence?

I have concerns about Muse being listed as an influence, under "influences"; the only cited source is another wiki (the Muse Wiki), which in turn cites only two sources on the subject, one of which is a guestbook entry supposedly by Chris Martin himself (but with no convincing evidence that it's actually him), and the other of which is an article that can no longer be found by following the link. Radiohead
