I Am Empire is an American Christian rock band from San Jose, California, formed in 2008. After one self-titled independent release, the group was signed to Tooth & Nail Records, on which they released their debut album Kings in 2011.

History

The band originally went by the name Vespera, but after unsuccessful touring, two member departures, and threats of a lawsuit from another band with the same name, the band took the name I Am Empire in August 2008[6]. Since then, the band has consisted of Austin Lyons (lead vocals), Andrew Stanton (guitar), Dan Otis (guitar), Joshua Case (bass and vocals), and Eric Martin (drums). Following the name change, the band independently released a self-titled album in April 2009 before signing to Tooth & Nail Records in May of 2010.[7] The band's first label release, Kings, was released on January 25, 2011 and has since made Billboard's Top Christian Albums and Top Heatseekers charts, peaking at 35 and 40 respectively.[8]
