Hi Smallman, I moved my page on Relationship Contingent Self-Esteem to the main space and am working on a "first final draft." I was wondering if you could take a look at it Relationship Contingent Self-Esteem and let me know if there are changes I should make. Even a cursory look and comment would be helpful. Thank you! Wake Forest Class meet and Greet

Hi! I'm a member of Will Fleeson's graduate personality class, so I'm here to just introduce myself! Thanks for anything you can help up with. Moonpe11 (talk) 18:15, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Welcome to Wikipedia!Smallman12q (talk) 23:14, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. My name is Ben. I'm in Will's personality class, and I just want to introduce myself. I'm a psychology graduate student and I'm also interested in computer science, so we may have a common interest there. Do you do any programming? Armsbf11 (talk) 18:22, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia Ben. I can program in several languages including: ANSI C++, .net 4 (C#/VB) and PHP5.2, though my programming contributions are mainly on stackoverflow. I'm also familiar with web browsers and web technologies since the Mosaic days. Cheers!Smallman12q (talk) 23:14, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Very cool. I've been working in PHP and done some python and smidge of ruby. I've gotten a lot of solid advice and info from stackoverflow.

Hi there! As you know, we're going to be posting or editing articles on Wiki for our personality psychology class. I've posted three ideas on my talk page under the section "Potential Wiki Articles." I'd love to have some feedback when you get the chance - that might help me pick a good topic to contribute. Thanks for your help with this! -Brett Majobc11 (talk) 22:13, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've responded at User talk:Majobc11.Smallman12q (talk) 13:46, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have some article ideas that I'd like you to look at too, if you wouldn't mind. I posted them on my talk page under "Article Ideas!". I too would enjoy your feedback. Thanks in advance. -Ben Armsbf11 (talk) 01:33, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I've also got some topics for you to check out when you get the chance (looks like I'm pretty far back in the line though). I'll just post them here: Heritability of personality traits. Trends in development of personality traits. Personality traits predictability of life outcomes. Thanks! Moonpe11 (talk) 17:03, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Smallman12q, our assignment for class this week is to find a page to critique and make suggestions to. I posted in the talk page of the Dopamine receptor D4, could you please tell me if my suggestion is appropriate, and if I used the correct formatting? Also, how do I link to other Wiki pages, like if I would like to link you directly to the page I posted on? Thank you!! Linp11 (talk) 15:56, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To link to another page on the wiki, you use Talk:Dopamine receptor D4 to give Talk:Dopamine receptor D4 or go here for go here. See Wikipedia:Cheatsheet. I've responded at the article's talk page.Smallman12q (talk) 21:19, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Smallman12q, my name is Paige and I too would appreciate feedback on expanding/revising the Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory to include origin, evolution, critique and revisals, and current applications. Reviews

Hey Smallman12q, I was wondering if you could take a look at my "rough draft" for my wiki article entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Moonpe11/sandbox). It needs a lot of work, but I think the frame of it is pretty solid. Just let me know. And thanks again for helping us out so much with our class project (I know it must be time consuming to read over and edit all this stuff)! Moonpe11 (talk) 14:18, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's a bit far down the page, underneath the heading "Personality traits and life outcomes." Moonpe11 (talk) 14:19, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's an excellent start. Well-sourced, wikilinked, and coherent. Wikipedia articles aren't essays, so you should rework the "in addition" and "lastly". Are you going to expand the article into sections?Smallman12q (talk) 00:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, awesome! Thanks for the tips. Haha, I'm writing like that ("in addition") is out of habit I guess. And I probably will break it up into sections eventually, once I do a little more research on the topic. I tried to set it up so I can break up into sections fairly easily if I need to. Again, thanks for the input! Moonpe11 (talk) 18:13, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I asked you to tell me what you thought a few weeks ago about my potential topics and have chosen the personality distribution topic. I have written a tentative summary in my sandbox. can you please look at it when you get a chance and tell me what you think? Msbeaulieu (talk) 18:52, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good start. You should add more wikilinks and references. Also, you should break it into paragraphs/sections so I can provide a better review.Smallman12q (talk) 00:40, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I have also written a summary/rough draft of my article, and was wondering if you could take a look at it to make sure it doesn't have any glaring errors? The article is in my sandbox, under "Dimensional approach to personality disorders". Thanks! Allexe11 (talk) 21:38, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good start. It needs more wikilinking (more of the blue links in the article). The first paragraph needs references. This sentence: "Following from these claims, it is suggested that diagnosis and characterization of personality disorders should not be based on a "checklist" of symptoms, but instead should be based on the degree to which a person shows a particular personality characteristic." is in the wrong tone. Who suggests? Smallman12q (talk) 00:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Smallman12q, could you also please take a look at my article's rough draft? Mine is also located in my sandbox, under the Person-Situation Debate header. Any tips/advice greatly welcomed! Thank you Linp11 (talk) 18:53, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good start. It needs more wikilinking. Some of the article such as "Mischel's book raised important questions about trait concepts and measures in psychological research. Kenrick and Funder note that controversy is beneficial to scientific research because it helps narrow down competing hypotheses." should be rephrased.Smallman12q (talk) 00:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I too have written a summary draft of my article. Would you mind taking a look at mine as well? It's in my sandbox as is the only thing in there. Armsbf11 (talk) 22:03, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good start. You need to add wikilinks. It needs a little copyediting, but otherwise is fine.Smallman12q (talk) 00:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've also written a small rough draft for my article. Mine is on how personality changes through a life span. Any feedback you could give would be helpful. It's in my sandbox. I'm having a problem with my citations, though. I have cited the same article in 2 different places. I thought it would add the same footnote as the previous time I cited it. Is that misguided? Right now, the same citation shows up twice on my references list. Is it possible to get rid of that? Desasu11 (talk) 23:51, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've corrected the citation. You have to name the reference. See the difference. The article is not structured properly. The first sentence "When talking about consistency of personality and whether or not it changes in the lifetime there are four different types of consistency:" should instead read somewhat as follows: "The consistency of personality refers to the the amount of change that someone's personality undergoes over their lifetime. In personality psychology there are four types of consistencies: "intra-individual differences", "Ipsative", "Mean-level", "Rank-order"."Smallman12q (talk) 00:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I too have written a brief summary for my article in my sandbox about how people determine others' personalities. I appreciate any feedback you have to offer. Thank you so much! Whitmb11 (talk) 18:56, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good start. You should not use words like "generally", "typically"...see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch. You need to add some wiki links (blue links). See my response to Desau11 above for how to properly reuse the same reference. You can generate automatic citations from a DOI at http://reftag.appspot.com/doiweb.py .Otherwise, it looks like a good start.Smallman12q (talk) 23:48, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Editing

Hey Smallman, I moved my page to the main space, but it's unsearchable and it has this error at the top, "This sandbox is in the article namespace. Either move this page into your userspace, or remove the User sandbox template." I went in and deleted the user:sandbox thing that was at the top but the error is still there. Any ideas? Moonpe11 (talk) 11:34, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Scratch that, I figured it out. Moonpe11 (talk) 15:47, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've left comments at Talk:Personality_and_life_outcomes.Smallman12q (talk) 01:23, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Smallman. I was just doing some copyediting and getting ready to move my page out of my sandbox when I noticed that a similar article had recently been posted: Facet_(psychology). What should I do? The content and structure are very similar. What's the protocol here? Can I put up a page that's similar? Should I try to merge my content with the existing content? Help. Armsbf11 (talk) 21:54, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You normally merge the content. Interestingly, it seems that the main editor of the article, User:Matthew.murdoch, is part of Wikipedia:Canada Education Program/Courses/Present/Contemporary Research in Personality (John Zelenski)/Articles and is editing the topic for their class project=P. You normally merge the content, but in this case, you may need to ask your professor what they want you to do. Perhaps you can collaborate with the User:Matthew.murdoch. I'll ask other ambassadors what should be done.Smallman12q (talk) 01:23, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed that there is another course, Wikipedia:United States Education Program/Courses/Research in Personality (MaryBeth McGavran), that might also be putting up articles right about now. I can't find on the other professors' pages where the students list their articles -- identifying overlap at this point would be a good start. By the way, John Zelenski is a friend of mine, so this is a fun coincidence. I'm awaiting the results of your investigations with other ambassadors.William Fleeson (talk) 18:48, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've spoken with a few ambassadors and the suggestion has been, where possible the students should collaborate....thats the point of a wiki...to enable collaboration. They can merge their contributions. The students can ask one another on their user talk pages (or in real life/skype/IM/etc if they desire). I've looked at Wikipedia:United States Education Program/Courses/Research in Personality (MaryBeth McGavran)/Articles and the articles aren't listed yet...though the syllabus says they're due 4/9. I've asked the course's professor, User:Psy430uk, when the articles are to be listed. If the student has not yet started the topic, they should select a different one, if that's what the professor prefers. A more dedicated interface is under development at wmflabs and should be ready by next semester, which should help avoid such editing conflicts. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.Smallman12q (talk) 00:19, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
