Welcome to Wikipedia
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for visiting my talk page. My name is Jim, and I edit here with the username of "Cullen328". I've been contributing to Wikipedia for 2-1/2 years now. I am an Online Ambassador, and I have offered to help students in your class. Please feel free to ask me any questions at all about editing Wikipedia.
There are many helpful resources available for new Wikipedia editors. One that I like is WP:PRIMER, which is a one-stop introduction intended to help newcomers to better understand the basics of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The best advice that I can give you to learn how to be a good Wikipedia editor is to actually edit articles, edit talk pages and edit your own user page. Add high quality references to articles, improve the accuracy and improve the prose, and everyone here will sing your praises. Feel free to visit my user page and my talk page, and feel free to ask any question at any time. Thank you. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:18, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
Potential Wiki Articles
[edit](1) Humor styles
- four main types of humor styles: affiliative, self-enhancing, aggressive, and self-defeating [1]
- research suggests that people form personality impressions of others based on humor style [2]
- some humor styles are better for maintaining a "stable positive personality style" [3]
(2) Emotional expression/emotion regulation
- people vary a lot in how expressive they are with emotions
- the Berkley Expressivity Questionaire (BEQ) measures emotional expressivity
- individual differences have implications for health and well-being
- people vary greatly in terms of how much they use emotion regulation strategies
- strategies such as cognitive reappraisal and suppression
- research shows that certain emotion regulation strategies (cog reappraisal) are related to affect, health outcomes, well-being and social functioning [4]
- tie in how the personality variable of emotional expressivity is linked to the use emotion regulation strategies which ultimately influence our health and well-being
(3) Religiosity and personality [5]
- how is religiosity related to personality
- religions divided into three components: religiosity, spirituality, and fundamentalism
- the big 5 traits are correlated to each of these components
- implications
- I would suggest the first one Humor styles. It'd be the most pleasant to write and there is a fair amount of material on it (it's also has a more straight-forward outline). There is an article on emotional self-regulation which could be expanded if that's your what you want. Religiosity and personality would probably be the hardest because you'd have to maintain a WP:NPOV(neutral/unbiased point of view in terms of coverage). Additionally, the article is the most controversial of the 3 and could attract certain editors. You may want to see Religiosity and intelligence to see how such an article could be framed. All three would make fine topics for articles. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.Smallman12q (talk) 00:52, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- Humor styles is an excellent choice, and you have a great start. William Fleeson (talk) 21:10, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit]I added some ideas to the regulation of emotion talk page. I had a few suggestions about adding some info about the health implications of different types of ER strategies.

DYK for Humor styles
[edit]On 14 April 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Humor styles, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that individuals who report high levels of affiliative humor are more likely to initiate friendships? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Humor styles. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
