Airport names
More discussion on airport names.

WP:HYPHEN says that proper names get hyphens, like Jones-Smith (or, as the example says "John Lennard-Jones". Are airport names any different? If I take a bicycle trip from Paris to Orly and write an article about it, or someone else does, it would correctly be called Paris–Orly trip with an en dash and trip not capitalized. But if I create a bicycle and call it the Paris-Orly Flyer that becomes a proper name and is capitalized. Is not the same true for airport names? Please see the discussions at WP:MOS, Talk:Seattle–Tacoma International Airport#Requested move and the recently opened RfC at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Airports#New RfC. Nomination for the deletion of a page

Hi David, thanks for your help on the Eternal Eden page. I would like to nominate the article for deletion in Articles for Deletion. My rationale is that it fails to meet the General Notability Guideline and does not have enough sufficient coverage in its sources. Of the sources, three are from the game creator's website, two are trivial mentions that do not really provide any coverage on the game, and two of the "reviews" (the Game Tunnel review and the Aussie Nintendo review) are no longer online and just redirect to a "page not found" error. The last two sources are from the same website (RPGFan) which I don't see listed in WP:VG/S. 124.181.127.71 (talk) 17:32, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All right then; I'll use your exact rationale. I'm guessing you can't do the nomination yourself because IPs can't create pages in "Wikipedia:" space? David1217 What I've done 17:35, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
 • Yes, that's correct. I don't really do much editing on Wikipedia and didn't think it would be worth the time to register an account just to do this, but I felt I should point it out anyway. Thanks again for the help. 124.181.127.71
It's now up: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eternal Eden. Happy editing! David1217 What I've done 17:41, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Thank you for Message ! :)--Aguzer (talk) 18:38, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! You must already be familiar with Wikipedia, from the Turkish one. David1217 What I've done 18:41, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
) Turkish Wikipedia is nice but EN Wikipedia very big :P.. :)--Aguzer (talk) 15:17, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted my update to my college page

I updated my colleges page with course listings, and you claimed it was discriminating. Please explain to me why our college cannot have our course list on Wikipedia when hundred of other colleges have them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.62.146.57 (talk) 02:01, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Per the college and university article guidelines: "Because Wikipedia is not a directory, do not attempt to list every major, degree, or program offered in this or any section." And I didn't say it was discriminating, I said it was indiscriminate. I assume you are Jduncanwiki. David1217 What I've done 02:09, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One question added after your vote

Thanks much for voting. When we put the RfC together, one thing we were all agreed on was that it should run a week, so that it didn't take too much time away from more central questions ... but we decided not to put that in the RfC, I think because we didn't want to force a cutoff in the middle of a good debate. At this point, I've added that question, if you'd like to vote on that one too. - Dank (push to talk) 13:39, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for notifying me, Dank! David1217 What I've done 21:48, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Submitting an article

Hi, I have recently created a new tiny search engine and i want to submit an article regarding it to Wikipedia. How could i do that? Can i do it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gowthamgutha (talkcontribs) 19:34, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are discouraged (but not banned) from creating articles on subjects where you have a conflict of interest. If you really want to write an article though, make sure it has significant (i.e. several news articles or the like) coverage in reliable sources (newspapers, books, magazines, etc.) to ensure it meets Wikipedia's standards of notability. Articles must also have a neutral point of view; this means no promotion of your company. Catch all that? And to actually get started on your article, visit the article wizard. Thanks

Thank you for the welcome. I hope to be of use, though since English is not my native language, I'll probably be more active on the Dutch Wikipedia. Vuurcifer (talk) 10:12, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I was bi multilingual. Oh well, happy editing! David1217 What I've done 14:26, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not bilingual, I'm trilingual. I suppose that you could consider bilingual a subset, though. Not sure. Vuurcifer (talk) 14:32, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Amended my comment. David1217 What I've done 14:36, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
*laughs* Very well. Vuurcifer (talk) 14:46, 8 September 2012 (UTC) (Amended to fix small formatting problem. Vuurcifer (talk) 14:46, 8 September 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Page Curation update

Hey all :). We've just deployed another set of features for Page Curation. They include flyouts from the icons in Special:NewPagesFeed, showing who reviewed an article and when, a listing of this in the "info" flyout, and a general re-jigging of the info flyout - we've also fixed the weird bug with page_titles_having_underscores_instead_of_spaces in messages sent to talkpages, and introduced CSD logging! As always, these features will need some work - but any feedback would be most welcome. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:19, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help Project

Hey. I missed replying earlier, and don't want to bump the thread (and prevent archiving even longer), so, to answer your questions at WP:VPR#Additions to the sidebar

Re: Introduction link: Would need a new thread, as everyone above is supporting/opposing something else. Also, page 2&3 of the Intro have barely changed since 2005/06 when they were designed ([1], [2]), and should probably be thoroughly checked and improved before being considered for sidebar prominence.

Re: Help Project: See Wikipedia:Help Project/Newsletter and the root project page - his fellowship ends this month, so hopefully a lot will be completed in the next 2 weeks. It'll be up to all of us, after that.

HTH. —Quiddity (talk) 16:53, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's probably not worth making a new thread. Thanks for the newsletter link. I'm glad to see what The Wub is doing—the help pages needed some help, if you'll excuse the extremely bad pun. David1217 What I've done 16:57, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Eternal Eden

You might want to look at the AFD for Eternal Eden, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Eternal_Eden

According to Amalthea, the IP who requested you to AFD the article might have done so in bad faith. ScienceApe (talk) 14:38, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't realize anything fishy was going on. Guess I should have looked at the user who asked me to nominate the article a little closer... David1217 What I've done 13:49, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're Invited! Wikipedia Takes Portland 2012

<font=3> You're invited to participate in Wikipedia Takes Portland 2012, an annual event which occurs each September in Portland, Oregon as part of Wikipedia Takes America and Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States. Photographing sites in Portland listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the main focus of Wikipedia Takes Portland. This year the event will kick off at Saturday, September 22nd at noon at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Currently, there are no formal plans--this is simply an opportunity to meet fellow Wikipedians before trekking around PDX to photograph sites on the Register. Not interested in coming downtown? You can still upload your images as part of the international photo competition. Be sure to RSVP and share the results of your work HERE (number of images uploaded, links to galleries, successes, feedback, etc. Click here for more information about meetups in Portland! --Another Believer (Talk) 15:07, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why, thanks for inviting me, Another Believer. I doubt I'll be able to come, but hopefully you'll get lots of good photos taken! David1217 What I've done 22:36, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Curation newsletter

Hey Conifer. This will be, if not our final newsletter, one of the final ones :). After months of churning away at this project, our final version (apart from a few tweaks and bugfixes) is now live. Changes between this and the last release include deletion tag logging, a centralised log, and fixes to things like edit summaries.

Hopefully you like what we've done with the place; suggestions for future work on it, complaints and bugs to the usual address :). We'll be holding a couple of office hours sessions, which I hope you'll all attend. Many thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 11:25, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
