Jordan Maron, better known as his YouTube username and online name, CaptainSparklez, is an American YouTuber. Maron is best known for his song parodies made using Minecraft textures. He also regularly posts gameplay commentary videos that mainly focus on Minecraft.[1] However, other games are also played during the video such as Team Fortress 2, and Call of Duty, among others. In November 2012, Maron's YouTube channel surpassed 2 million subscribers.[2] Maron collaborated with Andrea Rene of Machinima in a video published by What's Trending.[3] In December 2012, Maron appeared in the inaugural episode of The Fine Brothers' YouTubers React.[4]
History
Maron's original channel was Prosdonttalkshit. Maron mostly posted Call of Duty videos and worked for Machinima.
On July 20 2010, he created his new channel CaptainSparklez due to the explicit language on his other YouTube channel, and kept posting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay. As Minecraft got mildly popular, Jordan posted a few Minecraft videos and soon he completely switched his channel from Call of Duty to Minecraft.
Songs parodies
Maron has (as of December 2012) parodied four popular songs. In music videos Maron is always accompanied by fellow YouTuber, "TryHardNinja", who provides the lead vocals in all of the parody videos. All of the parodies published by Maron have gone viral to different degrees. As of November 4, 2012,TNT has earned 46 million views, Revenge has earned 70 million views, Fallen Kingdom has earned 37 million views, and Minecraft Style has earned 30 million views. Minecraft Style particularly also achieved media coverage by NBC,[5] MSN,[6] and The Daily Telegraph,[7] among several other online news publications.[8][9] However, due to copyright technicalities, Maron's Gangnam Style spoof was blocked in "99.9%" [sic] of countries.[10]
