History

Pre-debut

Before their official debut, Nine Muses released a track for the Prosecutor Princess OST called "Give Me" with Seo In Young. The group was announced on March 26, 2010, after their youngest member gained a lot of interest from the public by appearing in the music video for label mates ZE:A.

2010: Debut and "Let's Have a Party"

Nine Muses made their official debut on August 12, 2010, with the release of their single album Let's Have a Party. The lead track of the album being "No Playboy", a song produced by composer Rainstone and Park Jin Young. Nine Muses originally had 14 potential members, but when the name of the group was announced, the company selected the nine members most ready to debut in the group.

Later into their debut, member Jaekyung left to focus on her modeling career and was replaced by Hyuna. In late 2010, the girls continued with follow-up promotions for the song "Ladies".[1]

In December 6, 2010, it was announced that the band was preparing to advance to Japan. On December 26, 2010, Nine Muses held a successful performance of six songs on Seoul Train, an event in which K-pop artists and groups perform for their Japanese fans, alongside V.O.S. and ZE:A.[2]

2011: Line-up changes and "Figaro"

It was confirmed on June 9, 2011, that the group would become a seven-member sub-unit. Star Empire Entertainment initially stated that Rana and Bini were still in the group, but weren't going to participate in this round of promotions.[3] However, On August 11, after months of hiatus, Star Empire announced Rana and Bini's official departure from Nine Muses. The decision was mutual as Rana and Bini wanted to pursue individual activities. However, they are still signed with the company.[4] It was later confirmed that Rana dropped out but wishes to stay in the industry, while Bini was replaced, presumably by Kyungri.

The group released their first digital single "Figaro" and its accompanying music video on August 18;[5] after revealing two teasers and concept photos earlier in the month. They made their comeback performance on M! Countdown the same day as the single's release.

2012: New members and "Sweet Rendezvous"

Nine Muses introduced their new eighth member, Kyungri, at the groups's performance in Abu Dhabi, UAE.[6][7] They revealed concept photos for their second single "News", featuring all 8 members, on January 1, 2012.[8] Nine Muses released the music video for "News" on January 10,[9] with the single release a day later on January 11, 2012. The song was produced by Sweetune, who was also behind their "Figaro" single. The song received a good response and had garnered a larger fan base for Nine Muses.

On February 20, Star Empire Entertainment announced that the group will make their comeback in March with a new track due to the good response. On March 6, a teaser video for "Ticket" from their Sweet Rendezvous mini album was released.[10] The music video for "Ticket" was released on March 8.[11] On April 6, Sera hinted that the group is working on their next comeback song through an Arirang interview and that Nine Muses added their ninth and final member, Son Sungah.[12] On May 25 they released two music videos for their new military campaign song "My Youth’s Allegiance".[13] It was rumored that Nine Muses would make a comeback on December. On October 10, Nine Muses announced their official fan club name which is 'MINE' after the members went to through together a list of suggestions by fans. MINE is a combination of 'My' and 'Nine' which means 'My Nine Muses'.[14] Nine Muses announced at the Walk with the Stars event on 17.11.12 that they will have a comeback in January 2013.

2013: "Dolls" Comeback

It was officially announced that Nine Muses would comeback on January 24th as a 9 member group, confirming Sungah to be the 9th member. Their title song is being produced by Sweetune, marking the 4th collaboration between Nine Muses and Sweetune.[15] On January 10th, Star Empire announced that their title track will be titled "DOLLS," and will be released as a single album. [16] On 22nd January 2013, they performed a special comeback stage with "Dolls" at military base and received explosive response from the soldiers. [17] Then they debuted at number 35 with the single "Dolls" on GAON TOP100 Chart & 11th on M!Countdown, peaked 7th and they keep in the Top 10 for some weeks. 'Dolls' peaked at the 17th place on the Gaon Chart and has become the group's highest charting single.
