The 2013 Boston Bruins season will be the 89th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on November 4, 1924.[2] The regular season was reduced from its usual 82 games to 48 due to a lockout.
Off-season
On June 3, 2012, it was announced that goaltender Tim Thomas was planning on taking a year off from hockey.[3] Thomas has continued to make headlines for things outside of hockey, mainly political views, which he has demonstrated by boycotting the Bruins Stanley Cup visit to the White House[4] and postings on his Facebook page.[5] He was traded to the New York Islanders on Feb. 7, 2013. Like the rest of the teams in the NHL the Boston Bruins had their season delayed and shortened by the 2012-13 NHL lockout. The Bruins traded Benoit Pouliot in the off-season, and lost four other players to free-agency, but otherwise kept the team intact.
