|ShortSummary = Debra struggles to accept Dexter as who he is, while Dexter and Masuka look for evidence on Speltzer in the mausoleum, with no luck. Debra asks Dexter about Rita's murder and Dexter's involvement in it. Dexter reveals the truth to Debra that Arthur 'Trinity' Mitchell killed Rita hours before Dexter killed him. Meanwhile, Speltzer is caught by local police at a scrapyard and is brought into the station. During Debra's interrogation he cracks and admits he murdered at least one of the girls, however, during the trial, the judge dismisses Speltzer's confession, because he officers failed to properly mirandize him when placing him under arrest, and sets him free. Dexter enters Speltzer's motorhome to catch Speltzer off guard, but Speltzer unexpectedly comes in and knocks Dexter out. Dexter awakes in a maze, but manages to fend off Speltzer and escape from the roof. After Quinn and several police officers raid Sirko's strip club, yet again, Sirko determines he needs a scapegoat to blame for Mike Anderson's murder, and chooses the bartender from the club, whom he convinces to kill himself with Anderson's gun after writing a 'confession'. At the crime scene, Quinn is convinced the bartender is the killer, but Batista and Dexter think it was a setup. Hannah McKay visits Miami Metro to help the police with the investigation of Wayne Randall's murders, after the police had uncovered one of his murder victims. Speltzer attends the burial of his last victim, which makes Debra lose control and she has to be restrained. Dexter arrives at Debra's home and tries to comfort her. They wonder if their relationship can ever be the same as before. Batista finds out about Quinn's involvement with Nadia. Dexter sends Harrison away so he can freely chase Speltzer without worrying about his family. Dexter finally catches Speltzer at the cemetery and straps him to the cremation bench. After killing Speltzer, he burns both the body and his blood slides in the fire.
|ShortSummary = Miami Metro continues their hunt for Speltzer, who is soon arrested by local police. During interrogation, he admits to the murders, but his suit is dismissed on a technicality and is set free. As Dexter pursues Speltzer, he is caught and trapped in Speltzer's labyrinth, but manages to escape. Realizing he needs a scapegoat for Anderson's murder, Isaak convinces the club's bartender to commit suicide, after leaving behind a 'confession.' Batista finds out about Quinn's involvement with Nadia. Hannah McKay visits Miami Metro to help the police with the investigation of Wayne Randall's murders. Dexter finally catches Speltzer and kills him at the cemetery.

List of episodes

The seventh season of Dexter premiered on September 30, 2012. It begins a story arc which will continue over the course of the eighth season (scheduled for June 30, 2013) as well.

Development

On November 21, 2011, Showtime renewed Dexter for both a seventh and eighth season, each consisting of 12 episodes.[2] Showtime officially announced that the seventh season will premiere Sunday, September 30, 2012.[3][4] These two seasons are planned to feature a story arc spanning across both seasons.[5][6] The premiere episode of Season 7 featured a flashback to Deb and Dexter's childhood.[7] On April 24, it was confirmed that Ray Stevenson will guest star in the upcoming Season 7, and he is set to play the head of a Ukrainian crime syndicate who arrives in Miami determined to find out who killed one of his associates. Jason Gedrick will appear in a multi-episode arc playing the manager of a Miami-area gentlemen’s club that becomes linked to a high-profile murder case. Yvonne Strahovski, who is known for starring in the NBC television series Chuck, has also joined Dexter as Hannah McKay, a woman with a "checkered past" who arrives to help Miami Metro Homicide reopen an old murder case out of mutual benefit, and becomes Dexter's new love interest.[8]
