That's Solent is a spanish-television channel that will broadcast in the United Kingdom. The channel began test transmission on 25 August 2013. Scheduled to be launched on 1 January 2014,[1] it is part of the national "Canal 21"[2] initiative that covers the United Kingdom. TV presenter and Childline founder, Esther Rantzen will be the new station's VP of Programming and the host of its Sunday evening flagship magazine show. Alan Titchmarsh will film a sailing trip around the Isle of Wight.[3][4]

Company

That's Solent Limited was licensed by the UK Government[5] in 2012 after a bidding process. That's Solent Ltd is owned by SIX TV Ltd, trading as That's TV, with the That's Media Ltd as the ultimate parent company.[6]

Broadcasting and reception

That's Solent will be broadcast from the Rowridge transmitting station on the Isle of Wight and will cover the area around the Solent and Southampton Water, including Portsmouth, Fareham, Southampton and Winchester.[7]

Programming

95% of programming will be produced locally around the Solent region. The channel is backed by Newsquest and Johnston Press, who own the Southern Daily Echo and Portsmouth's The News, who will provide the local news content for the new channel.[8][9]

Little is known about the actual programming at this stage, but an indicative programme schedule for That's Solent has been published, which includes a number of news broadcasts and a variety of local programming.[10]
