Brunch

Weekend brunch goes on until as late as 3pm. I recently had Sunday brunch in Seattle[1] and Manhattan[2]. The lead doesn't differentiate between weekends and weekdays. Weekend brunches, esp. Sunday brunches, almost always go past noon. Dougweller (talk) 05:48, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

While a restaurant may choose to offer what it calls brunch at any time of day, it's questionable whether that is the accepted definition. If you believe that to be the case, you need to specify a reliable source.--Larry (talk) 15:44, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, one of those truth vs verifiable things. But I know there are many, many US restaurants where Sunday brunch goes over noon. Dougweller (talk) 15:54, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Found one:[3] "BRUNCH A late morning, noontime, or early afternoon meal, esp. on Sunday. MWCD: 1896. Source: BREAKFAST (MWCD: 15th cent ); LUNCH (MWCD: 1812). Brunch is a portmanteau word, a blend of the first two consonants of breakfast and all but the first consonant of lunch. The word developed after the name for the weekday noon meal changed from dinner to lunch and the "weight" of the meal changed from heavy to light. A light lunch was sufficient for a weekday (or Saturday) because it usu. followed a hearty breakfast; but it was redundant on a Sunday because it followed a hearty and also late breakfast. To the managers of hotels and restaurants, it made sense to combine breakfast and lunch into one meal, Sunday brunch, and either to serve only one other meal that day (a late Sunday dinner) or to serve no other meal at all. Brunch is now served between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 or 3:00 p.m., and it is usu. served buffet style, with visits necessary to several different "stations" for egg dishes, pancakes or waffles, quiches, meats, potatoes, salads, desserts, etc. This menu fits neither a breakfast nor a lunch, but it does fit the two together: a brunch. A champagne brunch is a lavish Sunday brunch at which champagne is served. DAFD; EWPO; FLC; LA; MDWPO; PT." - so it's been an meal that goes over to the afternoon since the late 19th century. Good work - go for it!--Larry (talk) 16:19, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done, but needs more work. Sunday brunch is a pretty big deal in a lot of places, with alcohol playing an important part - more stuff like Mimosas than champagne now I think. Dougweller (talk) 14:23, 25 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just to be clear, you are okay with the article being kept and as such are removing your vote? I just wanted to make sure you didn't feel an obligation to redact before I closed the discussion. Go Phightins! 19:59, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I am fine with keeping the article. Sorry for the lack of clarity -- I'm feeling my way in the AfD portion of Wikipedia.--Larry (talk) 20:04, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, thanks. I just wanted to make sure. If you ever have any questions related to AfD, don't hesitate to let me know. Happy editing. Go Phightins! 21:23, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Are you free on Sunday? Join us for a special Wikimedia DC WikiSalon!

Wikimedia DC invites you to join us for a special WikiSalon at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library's Digital Commons Center. We will gather at 3 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2013 to discuss an important topic: what can Wikipedia and the DC area do to help each other? We hope to hear your thoughts and suggestions; if you have an idea you would like to pursue, please let us know and we will help!

Following the WikiSalon, we will be having dinner at a nearby restaurant, Ella's Wood Fired Pizza.

If you're interested in attending, please sign up at the event page. We look forward to seeing you there! Kirill [talk] 02:38, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
