Cosmo and Wanda are main characters on the American animated television series The Fairly OddParents, created by Butch Hartman. They are the married fairy godparents of Timmy Turner, the central character on the show. They disguise themselves in public, and they are distinguished from each other by their coloring; light pink for Wanda, and light green for Cosmo. Their most common disguise is as goldfish who live in a bowl on Timmy's nightstand.

Describing themselves (with tongues in cheek) in one episode as being "two halves of a whole idiot", their ability to help Timmy is limited by Da Rules, the all-encompassing set of rules and regulations on fairy behavior. They are both thousands of years old and immortal, having been married for 9,895 years as of the episode Apartnership and share an anniversary with Mr. and Mrs. Turner. (As Timmy comments, "That's convenient.") They are also an odd couple, in that Cosmo is an idiot compared to the compassionate Wanda.

Family

Cosmo's Family

Cosmo's overprotective mother, Mama Cosma, is a domineering mother hen who smothers her son Cosmo and greatly dislikes Wanda. Cosmo, who had been working as a waiter at a local diner at the time, fell in love with and married Wanda and told his mother that he is going out for some milk. By the episode "Apartnership!", Cosmo & Wanda have been married for 9,895 years, and yet they still never had kids of their own. Cosmo's father appeared in one cartoon when Cosmo (as a baby) accidentally turned him into a fly. He never reappeared since, probably since he was still a fly. (In the flashback sequence, Mama Cosma was taller and thinner, giving the impression that, given her present appearance, she may be jealous of Wanda for her beauty, though this is highly unlikely.) Mama Cosma calls Cosmo "Cosmo-lo-lo" among many other names and bakes "Anti-Wanda" cookies ("Apartnership!"). Her reason for disliking Wanda was revealed in the first episode she appeared in, stating that "it's not Wanda. I'd dislike anyone who took my Cosmo-lo-lo away." Unfortunately for Wanda, this means Mama Cosma won't back off anytime soon.

Wanda's Family

Wanda's father, Big Daddy, is head of the Fairy World mafia. He currently holds a monopoly on the garbage disposal business. In an episode where Big Daddy is kidnapped, Wanda has to take over the family business. (The kidnapper is later found out to be Mama Cosma.) Big Daddy hates Cosmo, which parallels Mama Cosma's hatred of Wanda. Despite their hate for their children's spouses, both are in love with each other. (Whether this relationship will continue remains to be seen. Also, many fans despised the coupling, as well as the episode "Big Wanda" itself, particularly due to Cosmo's appallingly callous reaction to Wanda's apparent murder). Also, Wanda has an "identical yet somehow hotter" sister named Blonda, who looks the same except that she has blonde hair, is self-centered and lacks Wanda's affectionate nature. Blonda stars in the popular Fairy World soap opera All My Biceps. In one episode, Wanda said to Blonda "Mom always liked you best". That statement was the only reference to their mother who never appeared in the series. It is also borrowed from the classic Smothers Brothers routine in which Tommy Smothers would accuse his brother Dickie of being their mother's favorite.

Cosmo and Wanda's Godchildren

They have also been fairy godparents to many other notable figures before (sometimes, oddly, during) Timmy.

• Denzel Crocker: before one of Timmy's accidents (actually caused by Cosmo's stupidity) revealed that Crocker had fairy godparents.
• Bill Gates: Another one of their godchildren was Microsoft owner and billionaire Bill Gates, as seen in the episode, "Father Time".
• Tina Turner: Among their other former godchildren was pop singer Tina Turner, as pointed out in the episode,"Hassel in the Castle".
• Chester McBadbat: When Timmy wished he was never born, Cosmo and Wanda were given Chester instead of Timmy.
• Vicky: In The Switch Glitch, Cosmo and Wanda were actually given to Vicky by mistake.
• Tootie: In The Birthday Wish, Timmy gives Cosmo and Wanda to Tootie.
• Tommy and/or Tammy Turner: Apparently, Timmy's future child (or maybe both as it's unclear whether fairies can be assigned to a child who has siblings, as a few fans state that if this were possible, the children may share the godparents) will obtain Cosmo and Wanda, as revealed in Channel Chasers.

Cosmo has taken in the following pets:

• Phillipe the (Girl) Nickel; seen in several episodes, mainly Spaced Out.
• Steve the Hog; seen in Timvisible.
• Snowball the Hydra (appeared as a three-headed winged dragon); seen in This Is Your Wish.
• Carl the Ant (R.I.P.); seen in Sleep Over and Over.
• Cindy the Bee(R.I.P.); seen in Sleep Over and Over.
• Jimmy the Cat(6 lives left); seen in Sleep Over and Over.
• Rock the Rock; seen in Most Wanted Wish.

Cosmo & Wanda about to get romantic.

• Timmy will apparently lose Cosmo and Wanda by the time he turns 18, revealed in Channel Chasers.
• Cosmo and Wanda's ages are never stated, but it is known that, like all fairies, are immortal, and are older then any other human alive (the were alive, and about the same age, during the year 1003) There is a real chance, however, that Cosmo is older than Wanda, since she took 4 years to graduate high school while he took 10.
• Cosmo was originally envisioned as a fat, bald, lazy slob, and the formerly frumpy Wanda's name was originally going to be Venus. In the Oh Yeah! Cartoons shorts from which the show originated, Cosmo had a more "game show"-esque voice.
• Cosmo and Wanda are voiced respectively by Daran Norris and Susan Blakeslee (who also voiced Mr. and Mrs. Turner, Timmy's parents). Diana DeGarmo does Cosmo's singing voice in the hour-long special Fairy Idol.
• Cosmo is sometimes depicted as a homosexual. Shown for example, when he suggests dating the new foreign-exchange boy, the popular "Tad and Chad", and a few other recurring characters. In the show men are sometimes shown flirting with other men and dressing up like women. The stage for Wanda's personality was set in Season 2, although it was never referenced until later. Before that, her and Cosmo were both about the same, hence the "two halves of a whole idiot", and she would frequently grant dumb wish without warnings. Later, however, Wanda and Cosmo's personalities (and intelligence) would eventually evolve little by little to what they are now.
• It is interesting to note that Cosmo, Wanda, Vicky and Timmy have almost identical heads; the only things that really set them apart are the different colors of their hair, the colors of their eyes, and Timmy's buck teeth (which became more prominent as the show progressed) and rounded nose. The fact that the main characters of FOP are so similar in appearance is likely due to Butch Hartman's limitations as an artist.
• Throughout history, the actions of the two fairies had caused various historical events: Cosmo was held responsible for the sinking of Atlantis (9 times), creating the industrial city of Pittsburgh, and Wanda the extinction of dinosaurs.
