Hagane Kotetsu and his comrade, Kamizuki Izumo, attempted to hold their very own unofficial first test of the Chūnin exam. Before the Chūnin exam has even begun, he used Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique (Magen: Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu) to change the meeting room's number. Later, they tried to persuade the Genin who showed up to quit right there and then. He and Izumo were disguised as Genin and claimed to have failed the exams three times in a row. They were Chūnin moderators for the first test. In his Genin disguise Kotetsu carried two large kunai-style weapons on his back. Normally he wears an ordinary Chūnin uniform. He has a rectangular markings on his chin and cheeks, and wears a piece of cloth over his nose and cheeks.
In the anime, after the Godaime Hokage took office, Kotetsu and Izumo would act as her personal assistants.

Trivia

The name "Hagane" means steel or "full metal" (the condition metal is in once it has been properly alloyed for sword making) and "Kotetsu" means "Little steel".
There was a Japanese battleship called Kotetsu; both Kotetsu and Izumo share their names with Japanese ships.
A Kotetsu is also a type of sword appearing in many video games, including Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Tales of Symphonia.

Izumo is also the name of a famous Shinto shrine, Izumo Taisha (出雲大社), and an armored cruiser called which sailed in the Imperial Japanese Navy from 1900 through the end of World War II. Izumo's partner, Kotetsu, also shares his name with a Japanese ship.

Mizuki was Iruka's assistant instructor at the ninja academy. A very skilled ninja apparently, he devises a plan to steal the Konohagakure's forbidden scroll using Uzumaki Naruto as a fall-guy, intent upon learning the powerful forbidden jutsu within. Mizuki's scheme goes according to plan until Iruka gets to Naruto before he does. A fight then takes place which ultimately ends with Naruto saving Iruka's life by creating hundreds of Kage Bunshin (Shadow Doppelgangers) and beating Mizuki to a bloody pulp.

The manga never reveals what became of Mizuki's fate. In the anime, he makes his reappearance in episode 142. He has been imprisoned in the "Konoha Strict Correctional Facility," once called the "Special Ninja Felony Prison," where murderers and other criminal ninja are incarcerated. Although the official investigation report into the theft of the forbidden Scroll of Sealing concluded that he acted alone, it appears he is yet another ninja working for Orochimaru. A slip of paper Mizuki attempted to smuggle into the Correctional Facility, thought by the Facility's guards to be doodling, is recognized by the Godaime Hokage to be medicinal ingredients similar to materials confiscated from Orochimaru used to perform tests on humans. In addition, Tsunade concludes that Mizuki himself would have little benefit from the sealed scroll, and speculates that Orochimaru is in the background pulling the strings. Her suspicions are confirmed when Mizuki leads a prison revolt and sends the Legendary Stupid Brothers, Fūjin and Raijin, to Orochimaru.

We discover that Mizuki has a strange tattoo on his right arm, given to him by Orochimaru much in the way the Curse Seal was given to Uchiha Sasuke, Mitarashi Anko, and the Sound Five. It is a blueprint for a device to mix different ingredients into a potion. Mizuki met his former fiance, Tsubaki, who had pleaded to Mizuki that Naruto was good, and that Orochimaru was evil. He ignored her entirely, eventually knocking her out in the process. Mizuki raids the Nara medical facility for the ingredients written on the slip of paper, and creates the potion promised to bring him much power. He drinks it, and transforms into a tiger-like Man Beast with doubled speed and power. However, Mizuki is yet another victim used by Orochimaru - as Mizuki's powers dissipate quickly upon defeat and accelerate his aging so that he is an angry, shriveled, and powerless old man at the end of the filler arc.

Since these events take place in an anime filler arc, and not in the manga, it's not seen as canon.

Trivia

According to the official databook, Mizuki’s favourite food is sushi and his least favourite food is ramen, probably the sign of the author's attempt to create a character to ultimately offend Naruto as much as possible. His favorite phrase is "positive thinking".
In the Gameboy Advance game, Naruto RPG: Uketsugareshi Hi no Ishi (The Will of Inherited Fire), Mizuki can be found in a house in the forest near Konoha Village. A basket in the house contains the Icha Icha Paradise DVD.

Rin, a medical ninja, was the teammate of Hatake Kakashi and Uchiha Obito under the Yondaime Hokage during the Kakashi Gaiden arc. She is a sweet and friendly girl who cares for her teammates. She is also the one who implanted Obito's left eye into Kakashi, giving him his Sharingan. She has [had] intimate feelings for Kakashi. Just like Naruto has a crush on Sakura, Sakura has a huge crush on Sasuke and Sasuke ignores her.

When Rin is captured by the ninjas, Obito and Kakashi had went to save her. (Actually Obito came first while Kakashi had to be forcefully convinced to) Obito then says that the ninja who stole Rin must have done something to her because his Sharingan had showed him that her chakra flow was different. Then, when Obito had saved Kakashi, she implanted Obito's eye into Kakashi.

Her status is currently unknown, but she is presumed dead as in the manga and anime, Kakashi has noted to Sasuke that everyone close to him is dead. she may be related to the Inuzuka clan, by the marks on her face.

Some fans believe that, if Tobi is/was Obito, when Tobi appears she will reappear as well and a Team Yondaime reunion will occur with Rin and Kakashi battling Tobi.

Much later (during the Sasuke Retrieval arc), he was on a four-man team with Namiashi Raidō, Shizune, and Shiranui Genma. After Raidō and Genma were defeated and nearly on the verge of death by the Sound Four, Iwashi wanted to chase them down to avenge his comrades but Shizune wisely held him back.

When an upstart Genin questioned the proctors' ability to catch the Genin cheating, Tonbo answered him quite ably: without warning, he sent a flying knee into the Genin's stomach, offering his strength as proof.

Trivia

"Tobitake" is formed with the characters 飛 ("fly") and 竹 ("bamboo"). "Tonbo" translates as "dragonfly". Thus, his name roughly means "dragonfly flying in the bamboo" - an appropriate name, given his demonstrated mind's eye ability.
