Does the shoot em up genre have any notable individuals who contributed to the advancement of the genre? For example, Shigeru Miyamoto being a notable individual in the platform genre, or John Carmack being a notable individual in the third-person shooter genre. Just wondering if SHMUPs have any "celebrity" (for lack of a better word) developers in its history. --69.234.208.76 21:36, 20 August 2005 (UTC) What about - Eugene Jarvis? Or Jeff Minter? Or (for something simpler but more modern) Kenta Cho of ABA Games? Or anyone who involved in creating a shooting game that you enjoy? If you go back to the 70s/Early 80s a single person is more likely to achieve fame status but Miaymoto's fame rises from being associated with one single company's very biggest sellers in multiple genres, not just the platform game.

Surely Scramble came out before Defender? --bodnotbod 20:50, Jul 18, 2004 (UTC)

Not according to my research. Why do you say that? Spottedowl 00:01, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)
I was making an assumption really. It seems hard to believe something as quick, multi-buttoned and fast as Defender was released before the relatively plodding, simplistic Scramble. However, I'm by no means an expert on these things, so if you've seen the dates that's good enough for me. --bodnotbod 00:46, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)
I've rechecked the dates and they are correct. My guess is that Scramble was just (technically) crap. ;) Fun, though. Spottedowl 15:26, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Notable individuals in this genre?
