== Some ideas to improve ==

I found this game very ludic and fun.
Why not add supplementary quests, for learn more again? If a contributor wants to know more on a specific subject, he can do the quest for learn. For example :
-User page quest
-Editing war stopping quest (with a false editing war, of course)
-Vandalism stopping quest (with false vandals, as the false users of the original TWA)
-etc.
Also, why not put this awesome game to other Wikimedia projects. The Wiktionnary Adventure, The Wikispecies Adventure, etc...

The
Adventure

Welcome to the Interstellar Lounge and Cafe!

More funky Less funky
Sit down, have a cup. While you're here something to muse on:

Think about what an awesome trip you're on,
How many millions of people benefit from Wikipedia every day,
How marvelous it is that people all over the world have collaborated to create this unique resource,
How important sharing knowledge is,
How people working together over time can do amazing things.

Hope that was an inspiring musing :)

Questions

  • No questions. I just appreciated the way the adventure worked in understanding editing here. Thank you all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zewix (talkcontribs) 10:39, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Can you exit out when you are on the adventure?Beanfajita50 (talk) 00:49, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You can always click the [x] to close the tour, but then you lose your place in that mission and you have to repeat it. The game 'saves' your work, but when you replay a level it will continue from the beginning of whichever mission you start. Cheers!Ocaasi t | c 22:42, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback on the game

Helpful feedback tips

Tell us what you liked about it, where we could improve, and what you learned

How you can help
  • Play the game all the way through. Do you get stuck anywhere? Is anything unclear?
  • Finish the game if you only played a few missions: Give some attention to missions 5-7 (which have been tested much less)
  • Start over fresh with a new account: Like User:OcaasiTWA17 (these are legitimate alternate testing accounts and are not considered sockpuppets)
  • Try a different browser: If you used Safari, try Firefox (or Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera...)
  • Show the game to a friend or family member to see how they like it and if they get stuck anywhere
In your feedback, please include any of your thoughts on
  • text instructions within the game
  • graphic placement
  • bugs in the tour mechanics
  • your web browser
  • your screen resolution
  • which step of the tour you were on if something didn't work (see the step= in the url)
  • what you liked
  • what you didn't like
  • what you think would work better
  • your thoughts on the design: the theme, the guide, the characters, the colors, the images, the sounds
known bugs
Bug Stats
  • Fixed: 188!
  • Remaining: 3

Not fixable this version

  • Lingering Dialog Boxes: If you leave the tour without finishing, the guider dialog boxes will follow you until you [x] out of them (this is a Guided Tours issue generally and there's no easy fix) Example
  • Vector Only: If you're using monobook or modern etc., the layout won't work. Almost all new editors will be using Vector, so this is a known, acceptable trade-off
  • Old Internet Explorer: The game is not compatible with older versions of IE. IE8 doesn't work. Try IE9 or even better IE10.
  • Source Editor Only: The game doesn't work with Visual Editor. It could, but it won't be fixed until VE is stable and out of opt-in beta. Example
  • Mobile and Tablet Formatting Fails: While tested for most modern desktop and laptop browsers, the game is not configured to work properly on tablets and other smaller devices. It may, but we'd be getting lucky.
  • Doesn't scale to my preference of window size or scale symmetrically (ctrl 0/-/+). FF 25. (@start)

Fixable (working on these now)

mechanics

  • Reply using edit section links in some places rather than full page edit Example
  • There's no way to jump ahead if you are repeating steps or trying to get back to where you left off mid-mission.
  • If you [x] out of the tour, especially if so you can edit, then there's no way to get back to where you were (see example fix above for a 'skip' option) (should skips go per step, or per chunk?) Example
  • Galactic challenge box has only an [x] and a back button, is it clear you answer the question below? Example
Sorry to cut in, but I didn't realize that "Challenge yourself..." did anything beyond cheer-leading you to continue the game. Thanks for posting this. Wordreader (talk) 01:18, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Back buttons on edit summary steps are being cut off at the bottom, no way to go back to edit instructions.

usability

  • warning, only click buttons that post message once?
  • a way to say 'yes, i've done this already, skip ahead?' (add skip forward button?) Example
  • Restart Repeats: If you replay, a mission, the messages will be resent to you (the tour doesn't 'know' if you've played before). To better retest the game, create a legitimate alternate testing account (e.g. OcaasiTWA17) which is not considered a sockpuppet at all.

content

  • TWA doesn't use/introduce cite templates
  • Should it mention WikiLove? e.g. "When you see someone doing something great, or who looks like they need a lift, try out the [heart icon]"
  • no mention of plagiarism and copy/paste problems
  • no mention of Show Preview
  • too many smileys?

Updated feedback from Checkingfax

Hello, there are now 22 project sites on Wikipedia (up from 18). Time for an update! Checkingfax (talk) 04:54, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

hi Checkingfax What are these projects , Where can I find them?Kixzer Franz710 (talk) 01:44, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Kixzer ... Log in to your Wikipedia account, then click on the Preferences link; on the User Profile tab you will see a couple of links under Global Account Status ... click on those links and you should see (up to) 22-project-sites. Cheers! Checkingfax (talk) 18:51, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What I liked

… Thanks for making learning fun. It's great to be part of this multiverse of knowledge.

What I didn't like

… The first time around, I didn't get that I was supposed to participate, rather than simply read and 'click the equivalent of OK".

What I wanted more of

… Harder questions that didn't have all the answers as "copy and paste" items.

What was unnecessary

...

It was well constructed. Maybe if anything, the "fireworks" image was a teensy bit corny, but not at all a big deal.

Any other thoughts you want to share

… There is a LOT to learn, and I am grateful that this tutorial exists. Thank you!!!

The History page and sounds

Hi Ocaasi,

I just went through most of the game and I think that this was quite fun! As always there are of course some minor tweaks that would make it even better:

  1. I think that it was a bit confusing with the History page part. In the list is says "You" instead of my user name. I assume that this is for technical reasons, but perhaps it could say "YOUR USERNAME" or something?
  2. In the history list there were comments added to my edits (edit summaries) that I had not written. This, I believe, would be a bit confusing for a newbie as it would indicate that comments are added automatically/magically somehow.
  3. There are also some problems with the sound files as they do not open automatically when you arrive to a new page. If they would start automatically this would enhance the experience.

Finally, I was wondering when it would be possible to create local versions on other language versions?

Best, John Andersson (WMSE) (talk) 12:59, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I would suggest that the step of "Show preview" would be added more frequently. John Andersson (WMSE) (talk) 15:49, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And... when adding images I suggest that also the value of captions should be mentioned in the instructions, as that would be relevant information to point out IMHO (for increased accessibility for one thing). John Andersson (WMSE) (talk) 16:06, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why not go to REAL history?

In a step (I think it's mission 4) I was lead to a fake history of page "(username)/TWA/Earth". Why not go to the REAL one? User670839245 (talk) 22:53, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Er. got it. BTW in some wikis there're some sort of Template:USERNAME template that automatically display current user's username... can that be used? (It's still me, user670839245)23:19, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

Clean up tag

in mission 6 the cleanup template... should be on the top of a page, shouldn't it??User670839245 (talk) 23:02, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hey why not port that to other wikipedias?

auto-confirm states

In this wiki auto confirm is got by being for 4 days and make 10 edits... before that users can't save right away before they preview. How did I actually... (until the first REAL edit in the tour, 1 edit is made automatically by the tour... only one.) does the tour grant that right for users??!! (btw, the zh: needs 7 days and 50 edits.. and I am still not autoconfirmed there.)User670839245 (talk) 23:28, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Facing problems with Modern skin

I just went through the Wikipedia Adventure. My main purpose was to review the work that you all have done to see if there are any bugs and problems. I use the Modern skin and Firefox 26.0. Initially when the adventurer has to edit a page by clicking the the edit link button, I was not able to click it and the mouse cursor turned into the highlighting or editing mode instead of the hand which should have shown up while going to click a link (screen-shot of problem). I faced the problem starting 2 times and then didn't. I had to manually enter the edit link in the address bar to continue the adventure. The same thing happens when I view this page too. Even though I can't see the edit button, I can still click it. This is however not possible while the adventure is on. I hope you all fix this soon but I don't think that many newbies will even know about the modern skin.

Also, it would have been better if the music starts playing automatically (if it is possible). Can you please give me a list of the sound files that were used?

Have a very Happy New Year by the way. - Jayadevp13 15:05, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Jayadevp13, thanks for the feedback. We built The Wikipedia Adventure primarily for the default setting a new user would face, so Vector skin and Source (rather than Visual) editor. Frankly, we didn't even attempt to make it compatible with settings that the vast majority of new users wouldn't be using, as TWA is a very new-user centered tutorial.
The list of sounds is at Wikipedia:TWA/Index#Sounds.
Happy new year to you too! Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 17:07, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Ocaasi: Ok. I too think that compatibility for all skins is not required. Thank You for the sounds. - Jayadevp13 17:17, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
