Basic informationCome and join the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) for our very first Wikipedia edit-a-thon! PEM is committed to making information about its collections available to a global audience. At this first edit-a-thon, we’ll be editing Wikipedia articles and uploading images on our Native American and Chinese art collections using the resources and expertise provided by the PEM curators and staff.

New to Wikipedia?Want to learn about Wikipedia but never edited before? That’s fine! New editors are welcome at this event. We’ll provide training throughout the morning from friendly, experienced Wikipedians and museum staff. Before you come, you might want to check out the following resources:

On the dayMeet in the Atrium (main entrance) at 9am to sign in. There will be signs directing you to Create Space 2, where the event will take place.
Suggestions for editingThe day is themed around enriching and adding articles pertaining to Native American and Chinese art. Below is a list of topics we would like to focus on for this edit-a-thon. Many of these have links to PEM’s collections. Curators will be on hand with material related to these topic areas. These topics are broad- other suggestions are welcome! We will try to be as flexible as possible with requests on the day, but cannot guarantee the provision of materials on other topics.
Contemporary Native American artists Many of the Wikipedia articles on [contemporary Native American artists] are incomplete, and many significant contemporary Native American artists do not currently have their own Wikipedia articles. We'll be working to update information about these artists and add images of their works from PEM's collection. We'd like to improve the articles about these contemporary Native American artists:

Chinese Photography, Art, and Culture PEM's collection contains some fantastic vintage photographs of China. We'll be uploading some of these images from our collection to relevant articles on China, Chinese culture, and Chinese art, as well as updating and improving the articles' content. We'd like to add photographs to (at least) these articles:
