Summary

When the Mane-iac comes to Equestria to go after the Masked Matter-Horn. Masked enlists Princess Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy, and Spike to help her stop the Mane-iac by becoming the Power Ponies. However, Twilight would rather focus on her princess duties and the Magic of Friendship than help save the world. When the Mane-iac starts threatening Twilight's world, Twilight realizes what's really at stake. Will Twilight stop doing her duties as a princess and help the Power Ponies, and save the world?

Plot

On the planet Equestrion, Professor Yearling (the professor counterpart to A.K. Yearling (A.K.A Daring Do)) shows Empress Celestia (the Empress counterpart to Princess Celestia) her new invention, The Hair-Grower, a device powered by the Electro-Orb that can make anyone's hair grow wildly. But Empress Celestia is more concerned about finding a co-ruler to continue the royal bloodline. Soon a warship lands near the palace. Empress Celestia runs into the Mane-iac (the super-villain counterpart to Princess Cadance), and asks her if she can be her co-ruler. She agrees, but only because she wanted to steal the Hair-Grower, and is successful. Professor Yearling calls the Power Ponies: The Masked Matter-Horn (Twilight Sparkle's superhero counterpart), Fili-Second (Pinkie Pie's superhero counterpart), Zapp(Rainbow Dash's superhero counterpart), Radiance (Rarity's superhero counterpart), Mistress Mare-velous (Applejack's superhero counterpart), Saddle Rager (Fluttershy's superhero counterpart), and Hum Drum (Spike's super hero counterpart). But the Mane-iac makes every member of the Power Ponies hair grow, including Hum Drum's spines (since he's a dragon), except the Masked Matter-Horn. She manages to get hold of the Electro-Orb and escapes with Professor Yearling in a secret passageway. The professor uses her computer to search the universe for counterparts with DNA matches with the Power Ponies. Professor Yearling finds the counterparts, and gives the Masked Matter-Horn their pictures and some serums that will transform the counterparts into the Power Ponies, and she flies away to Equestria leaving Professor Yearling behind with the Mane-iac vowing for revenge.

The situation was revealed to be a comic book Pinkie Pie was reading during a throne room meeting with the gang. Pinkie is really excited about getting the next 100th edition issue. Princess Twilight's friends go to the House of Enchanted Comic Books in Canterlot to find the costumes, except Twilight who wants to focus on her princess duties. Pinkie gets the new Power Ponies issue from a news stand, with the Masked Matter-Horn jumping out of a comic book afterwards. Masked heads for Sugarcube Corner and is told where Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy, and Spike are by Twilight. Masked gives Twilight the Electro-Orb as well telling her to protect it. Curiously, the pages of the comic book show exactly what is going on in Equestria with Twilight & her group, but pages of future incidents are blank until the incidents occur.

In the break room at the House of Enchanted Comics, Pinkie, Rainbow, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy, and Spike notice the Masked Matter-Horn behind them. Masked hands them the serums asking them to help her stop the Mane-iac, but they don't change immediately after they drink the serums. However it's time for Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy and Spike to go to work and Masked follows. Meanwhile, the real Twilight is enjoying a relaxing day all to herself, but is captured by the Mane-iac (who appeared in Equstria earlier) who tortures her for the Electro-Orb, but to no avail (because Twilight is a cartoon character). Twilight tries to protect the Electro-Orb, but it is taken by the Mane-iac and orders her guards to get rid of Twilight.

Back at the House of Enchanted Comics, the gang is interrupted by the Mane-iac who crashes her war ship into the building and makes most of the characters at the studio's hair grow wild. The Mane Five, Spike and Matter-Horn escape to the back alley. Masked is wondering why the serums haven't taken effect yet. She notices Twilight falling from sky, when Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy, and Spike turn into their Power Pony counterparts, the effects of the serums having been delayed. They plan to bring down the Mane-iac's ship using the antenna on top of a tall tower nearby. The Mane-iac's ship reverses, causing a bill board to break to pieces. The Power Ponies hide under one of the broken pieces of the bill board and escape while being chased by people with wild hair and manage to reach the tower by crashing through walls. Princess Luna saves Twilight from the Mane-iac, by making the air vent suck her in while Celestia and a trash can were given wild hair styles. The Mane-iac causes chaos, making everyone in Equestria's hair grow wildly. Luna scolds Twilight for not helping the Power Ponies when the team needed her. Luna also scolds her that the Mane-iac would never had gotten the Electro-Orb if Twilight went with Masked Matter-Horn when Masked came to her world instead of Twilight being a princess and studying on friendship. Twilight doesn't see herself as a hero. Twilight prefers to be a princess and learn about friendship than save the day. Luna tells Twilight that she needs to stop being a princess and get involved. Luna and Twilight manage to find three survivors: Daring Do, the Breezies, and Trixie Lulamoon. Luna tells Twilight that this is the opportunity to get involved and save the day. Twilight decides to name herself and the survivors "The Family of Friendship" and form their own plan. Meanwhile at the tower, Masked realizes the people with wild hair are too much for the Power Ponies. Luckily Twilight and Daring disguise themselves as the Masked Matter-Horn, and get the people's attention. The real Masked Matter-Horn and the Power Ponies go to the antenna and use it to bring down the Mane-iac's ship. Meanwhile, the people with wild hair chase Twilight and Daring to the House of Enchanted Comics, and Luna opens the pit in the filming area, in which the wild hair people fall into. Meanwhile at the tower, the Mane-iac shoots the Hair-Grower using the super tangler mode at the Power Ponies.

Empress Celestia and Professor Yearling break free (by the Professor's monocle that Twilight put on the windowsill earlier), and take over the ship, flying into the air, making the Mane-iac fall off. However, she makes a giant hair monster by shooting the hair dryer-device at most of the buildings in Equestria, and decides to use the monster to destroy everything and get back her ship. Meanwhile, the Mane-iac's ship lands near the back alley of the House of Enchanted Comics, and the Family of Friendship meet them, who let Twilight enter the ship. The ship flies above the monster and Twilight jumps off. By using the power of the Super Tangled Power Ponies and the dropped Hair-Grower, Twilight defeats the monster along with untangling the Power Ponies. Twilight and the "Family of Friendship" surround the Mane-iac and she backs up into a corner called the "Smile Section" which Trixie invented. Twilight shoots the Mane-iac with the Hair-Grower and the Mane-iac becomes a nice alicorn who is the perfect spouse for Empress Celestia. Luna opens the pit and Twilight turns everyone's hair back to normal. Masked Matter-Horn gives Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy and Spike the red serums, and drink it. Empress Celestia and Princess Mane-Styler start their honeymoon after Empress Celestia immediately forgave her. Twilight finally wins Flash Sentry's feelings, and the two gaze at the stars. Suddenly, a trail of stars goes under them and they float into space and dance, before returning to Earth, and the film ends.

In the post-credit scenes, the gang watch a video (showing that the real Power Ponies are back) at the Cinema. They notice that Trixie is there too, and realize that she followed Masked to Equestrion. It looks like there will have to be a new assistant director to Charles which Pinkie is eager to take. At the end of the credits, Twilight turns to the audience and says "Until next time, everypony! See you soon!"
