*'''Comment''' is this so called because of the X stuck between two clock faces? If so, it could be O-X-O, thus acronymistic -- [[Special:Contributions/65.94.169.222|65.94.169.222]] ([[User talk:65.94.169.222|talk]]) 08:53, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Comments

I've just removed the section on that euphemistic meaning for oxo tower. Come on, surely that isn't necessary?? And it's an example of whatsit... y'know when an article only has references to things that have happened very recently. I think this article could be expanded in other ways though, I've added it to my to-do list. »» M ª «« (talk) 22:38, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored the omitted section see Wikipedia:GF, it is possibly more a reflection on you than the original editor that you feel this is a 'thinly veiled reference' to anal sex Freudian_slip. There is a restaurant at the top of the OXO tower [1] it is also rather expensive ([2] & [3]). This is the kind of information that may be useful to potential visitors who wish to know whether to visit the top of the tower. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.113.72 (talk) 20:18, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removed from the page: the "taking you up the OXO tower" joke. -- The Anome 00:30, 11 Nov 2003 (UTC)

So, when was it built? Wondering simply, -- Infrogmation 18:07, 18 Nov 2003 (UTC)

My guess would be 1920s - 1930s. Looks a bit art decoish. Probably more info on the web somewhere... Lee M 04:05, 24 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Why remove reference to the joke? The surely the euphemism is more famous than the building itself? - User:84.92.175.200 22:22, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I guess that probably depends on your geographical and cultural background. I've never heard of the euphemistic meaning before, and I've visited the place many times. But then I didn't grow up in London. On the other hand it isn't WP's job to do original research on playground slang, so we should only report usage like this if there are already good sources we can cite. So if you feel this needs to be included, first find a source (or even better a couple of sources) in some reputable publication or web site, and cite them.-- Chris j wood 16:18, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've just removed this again. Principally because the editor who put it in tried to make out that a cite I'd added for something quite different covered this usage. Not sure if it was malicious or just inexperienced editing, but either way enough to justify reverting. -- Chris j wood 16:18, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Meaning

My travel guide tells this was build by company named Oxo, who were selling a beef product with that name. Also told is that they sort of advertised the company with the tower, even though it was forbidden at the river bank. 85.217.42.90 (talk) 05:00, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

OXO TowerOxo Tower – not an acronym and not supported by the bulk of the text. Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 09:32, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Any evidence of that?--67.68.162.111 (talk) 19:44, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
