Max Vangeli (born Maksim Vangeli; 4 August 1985) is a San Francisco based DJ and record producer.[1] Originally from Eastern Europe, Vangeli is best known for his house music productions and collaboration with Swedish DJ and producer Antoine Josefsson, the duo is popularly known as AN21 & Max Vangeli.[2][3]

Biography and career

Vangeli was born and raised in Moldova, Eastern Europe[4] and and in his teens moved to the United States.[5] On regular trips back to Europe he was introduced to house music. He began his career as a DJ 'at the University of California in Santa Barbara. To reach the larger audience and execute his musical ambitions, he eventually relocated to San Francisco, a host of chart-topping remixes and dance scenes thanks to Kaskade, Miguel Migs and others. Vangeli made his international debut in 2010, with multiple tours throughout the world and remixed various artists. In the same year, he performed at international festivals including Creamfields in the UK, Mysteryland in Amsterdam as well as mega-clubs such as Cocoon in Frankfurt, Avalon in Los Angeles and Mansion in Miami. Later that year he was named as one of the DJ Mag’s 'Top 5 DJs to watch in 2011'.[4]

One of his first breakthrough remixes was an uplifted remode of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Starry Eyed’. Along with the Swedish Size Records head honcho Steve Angello, Vangeli and AN21 remixed "The Island" for the Australian band Pendulum.[6] The record was named 'Hottest track in the world' on the radio program of Zane Lowe for BBC Radio 1 and reached Number 3 in the global sales Beatport chart, once released in March 2010. After the release, his style can mainly be classified as house music with theatrical and epic themes. He often works closely with Steve Angello, AN21, Danny Ray and Tiesto on many projects.

Vangeli claimed fame with track "Swedish Beauty" in 2010, produced by him and Antoine Josefsson (AN21) and was named an "Essential New Tune" by Pete Tong of BBC Radio 1. In 2011, Max Vangeli grabbed the attention of electronic music fans worldwide and was named as MTV's, "destined to be one of the most promising artists of the year 2011 ".[4][7] Later in the year, he worked with industry heavyweights including Steve Angello, English singer Example, Tiesto and many others.[8] He focussed on live endeavours and marked frequent slots at Pacha Ibiza for the Masquerade Motel alongside the Swedish House Mafia, as well as spots at Sensation White.

He released the first non-compilation studio album with Antoine Josefsson, on Size Records entitled People of the Night.[9] His advance singles brag further collaborations alongside British chart topper Example, Steve Angello, and Tiesto were released by Size Records on September 3, 2012.[10] British Singer Example, Julie McKnight and Sandapa were major vocalist in the album. Most of his tours were with his partner AN21[11] and his producer brother Steve Angello.[12] He collaborated with Italian electro, house and dance-punk producer Rocco Rampino popularly known as Congorock, the song was called Lost and it was included in album People Of The Night on SIZE Records.

Vangeli launched a weekly podcast and radio show, CODE RADIO, in 2013 which is syndicated in 35 countries. It covers a spectrum of house music styles and genres. In 2014, he collaborated with his childhood friend Danny Ray to release 'Grim' on Size Records. His latest release was a vocal record called 'Last Night Changed It All’,[13] it charted in the Top 25 of the iTunes dance chart.[14]
