Congressman Fattah is expected to be a candidate for Mayor of Philadelphia in 2007 when Mayor John Street is term limited, but has been pressured to keep his Congressional seat to maintain a Philadelphia representative on the powerful Appropriations Committee in Congress. His opponent in the 2006 General Election is Michael Gessner.
