Members Quavo and Takeoff are uncle and nephew; Offset is Quavo's cousin and also member takeoff have a cousin named Ocean Holder [2] They are best known for their 2013 single "Versace" and their 2014 single "Fight Night".

Migos has collaborated with a number of major artists, such as Justin Bieber, Drake, Young Thug, Meek Mill, Gucci Mane, Young Scooter, French Montana, Riff Raff, Trinidad James, Fetty Wap, ASAP Ferg, Future, OG Maco, ILoveMakonnen, Twista, Wiz Khalifa,Travis Scott, B.o.B, Chief Keef, Soulja Boy, OJ da Juiceman, Juicy J, Shy Glizzy,Project Pat, DJ Carnage, Busta Rhymes, and R. He first rose to prominence when he was described by Quavo in Noisey: Atlanta part 2 as “Skippa da Flippa, he’s the shooter”[7] and with the success of videos such as “How Fast Can You Count it” and his appearance on “Trenches”.[8]

Musical career

The 2013 single "Versace", which was produced by Zaytoven, went viral[9] and peaked at number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100.[10] It also inspired rapper Drake to join for the official remix. They later performed it at the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival.[11] On June 13, Migos released their mixtape Y.R.N. (Young Rich Niggas) to critical acclaim. Brandon Soderberg of Spin gave it 8 out of 10 stars, commenting that it "is a super-cut of Dirty South vibes" and compared the three members to Gucci Mane, Soulja Boy and Future.[12] On June 15, 2013, the group performed at rap radio station Hot 107.9's Birthday Bash. In October 2013, they were featured in XXL's section Show & Prove.[13]

"Versace" was placed in multiple year-end lists of 2013, including number three on XXL's The 25 Best Songs of 2013,[14] number four on Complex's The 50 Best Songs of 2013,[15] number five on SPIN's 50 Best Songs of 2013,[16] number 38 on Pitchfork's The Top 100 Tracks of 2013[17] and number 69 on Rolling Stone's The 100 Best Songs of 2013.[18] Y.R.N. (Young Rich Niggas) was named the 27th best album of 2013 and sixth best hip-hop album of 2013 by SPIN.[19][20]

On February 25, 2014, Migos released their new mixtape No Label 2, which was downloaded over 100,000 times in the first week of its release and was certified gold on popular mixtape site DatPiff.[21] No Label II was met with generally positive reviews from music critics. Consequence of Sound described it as "the perfect mix of raucous party tunes and triumphant rap anthems for your next BBQ or block party"[22] and Exclaim! commented that it "is packed with potential hits."[23] Vibe also praised the production on the tape, calling it "extensive and impressive".[24]

On March 14, 2014, it was revealed that Migos' Y.R.N. 2 mixtape had turned into a full-fledged album. Leah Ambler also will contribute to the production.[citation needed] The trio are looking to put up to 20 songs on the effort.[25] It was then revealed in June 2014, that Migos had been signed to 300 Entertainment, which is distributed by Atlantic Records.[26] In June 2014, their single "Fight Night" was featured on XXL's 25 Best Songs of 2014 so far list.[27] It has peaked at #69 on the Hot 100, making it the group's most successful single to date.

Controversy

Washington Avenue Armory Concert Violence

On March 7, 2015, a rash of violence and stabbings took place at a concert they performed at The Washington Avenue Armory in Albany, NY where 6 people were stabbed and a woman was beaten and robbed in the bathroom. The New York Daily News reports that "the stabbing victims were four men, ages 21, 22, 23 and 28 and two teens, ages 16 and 17." [28] In addition to the violence that took place at the concert venue, Albany Police responded to a home on Sherman Street, walking distance to The Armory for a report of two stabbings by an unknown suspect from the concert. However, they claim the incident has nothing to do with them[29]

Chief Keef

On December 6, 2013, a series of now mostly deleted Tweets from Chief Keef and Migos occurred. Chief Keef tweeted first with an allegation that Migos was involved in an indirect diss against him. On the same day in a separate Tweet, Migos made it seem as if the issue wasn't as important. On December 9, 2013, Migos released their track "Jealousy." After the track was released people started to believe that the Twitter beef with Chief Keef was sent to the recording booth. On "Jealousy," the hook plays on the phrase "sneak diss" hinting to a more violent confrontation. Quavo responded with "I mean, like your Momma used to say, if the shoe fits. If you listen to the song, it's self-explanatory. If [I'mma] do one, [I'mma] say ya name to keep it one hundred. Ain't no need for me to be sneak-dissin'...We don't do no sneak-dissin'." Takeoff responded with, "You know, people gonna take it however they gonna take it and put it however they wanna put it." Offset added that the first Tweet from Chief Keef was unexpected saying, "Honestly, it caught us by surprise."[30]

On November 7, 2014, when Migos allegedly put hands on Chief Keef's GBE member Capo, it prompted Chief Keef's older cousin and former GBE member Fredo Santana to threaten the group with death for trying his set.[31] On, November 15, 2014, Migos were at the premier DC shake joint for a performance and after their set, they were approached by a group of men and a fight occurred. People took to Twitter to describe what they saw, and many tweeted that Quavo got his chain took. Following the fight, Chief Keef took to Instagram and posted a now deleted picture of what appeared to be one of the Migos' signature Quality Control chains with the caption, "What is this?"[32] Offset responded to the altercation by saying, "F*ck 'em. Nothing's going on. That's it. F*ck 'em. F*ck 'em, f*ck 'em, f*ck 'em, like OG Maco said, F*ck 'em!"[33]

On November 25, 2014, Quavo released a diss song entitled "Tha Truth," in which he speaks on the chain snatching. The track begins with a Facetime call between Quavo and someone who appears to be one of the people allegedly involved in the chain snatching, telling Quavo who he thinks has his chain. On the hook Quavo says, "Lil boy don't play with me." Throughout the track, Quavo breaks down what happened and why the people who snatched his chain should be scared. "You fucking with the wrong rappers man, we know your address and we got your name. All this for a QC chain, like your mama said boy, you in hot water. Put em on the menu, put em on the plate, cause Quavo wanna make an order," says Quavo in just one of many memorable lines in this diss track.[34]

On December 9, 2014, Migos and Chief Keef's GBE quashed their beef. Migos was in Los Angeles when Chief Keef tweeted out a picture of them together.[35]
