It is set to be released in November 2015. XCOM 2 serves as a sequel to 2012's reboot of the series, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and will take place 20 years after the event of Enemy Unknown.

Gameplay

XCOM 2 is a video game that features turn-based tactics and tactical role-playing element. Similar to its predecessor, the player takes control of the commander of the Avenger, a new mobile base for the XCOM.[1] Soldiers can be recruited in the game, with each soldier class having their own skill trees and abilities. Armors and weapons can also be researched and upgraded by the player in the Avenger base. Each mission's environment will be influenced by the world's state, while levels and map will be generated in a procedural way.[2] Players can utilize both firepower, despite resources are scarce, or to use stealth to complete missions and levels. Players can also loot corpses of enemies to obtain gears and artifacts. Mods will also be supported in the game. Campaign, class and enemies types can be created by user and can be shared through Steam Workshop. A one-versus-one multiplayer mode will also be featured in the game. New enemies will also be featured as well.[3]

Plot

The game was set 20 years after the events of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, in which humans were defeated by aliens in a war. The world was controlled by aliens and the X-COM was forgotten. The player must take control of the commander of the Avenger and freed human from alien rule.[4]

Development

On May 18, 2015, a new but untitled AAA title was announced by Take-Two Interactive in its annual earning reports.[5] On May 25, 2015, approximately a week after the announcement, a tease website called "Advent" was launched. It features an advertisement of Advent Administration, whose have the aim of "creating a world free from hunger, pain, sickness, and war'", but later revealing that the that the Administration have sinister plans behind it.[6] The game was officially revealed on June 2, 2015 by IGN and its debut cinematic trailer was released, while the gameplay of the game is set to be revealed during Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015 on June 15, 2015.[3] Jake Solomon, the creator director of Enemy Unknown, returns to direct XCOM 2. According to him, players' feedback of Enemy Unknown "played an important role in the development of XCOM 2."[6]
