Just wondering re this what is "disputed" and what you think might be original research?Skookum1 (talk) 06:55, 28 June 2014 (UTC) |

:Similarly "improve categories" on Gambier Island begs the question...what other categories did you have in mind? Your change from 17,000 acres then to 17,049 acres and then to "about 17,049 acres" apparently comes from a conversion of 69 sq mi....but where did you get that 17,049 figure from otherwise? And for such a precise figure, how is "about" in any way "improving wording" as your edit comment went.Skookum1 (talk) 12:51, 28 June 2014 (UTC) |

Amherst Island
It's nothing to do with Candian and British English, it's about Wikipedia's Manual of Style. There is long-standing agreement that plain english words should not be linked (WP:OVERLINK), section headers shouldn't be capitalised (WP:SECTIONCAPS), bold text should only be used in a few specific circumstances (MOS:BOLD), and external links (to websites outside Wikipedia) shouldn't be placed in the body of an article (point 2 of WP:ELPOINTS). If you want to contribute to Wikipedia, you need to familiarise yourself with these pages. I don't want to sound antagonistic, but continuing to ignore these guidelines will be seen as disruptive behaviour. If you disagree with the rules, you can discuss them here, but for now you're expected to abide by them. I've brought the page back in line with the MOS, and I'd advise you not to revert my changes again without a very good reason. DoctorKubla (talk) 14:05, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Overlinking and underlinking
What generally should be linked
Shortcut: WP:UNDERLINK
An article is said to be underlinked if words are not linked that are needed to aid understanding of the article. In general, links should be created to: relevant connections to the subject of another article that will help readers understand the article more fully (see the example below). This can include people, events and topics that already have an article or that clearly deserve one, so long as the link is relevant to the article in question.
archipelago is not commonly understood word in english. it is an academic word and hamlet is not a readily understood word either in english and since this a canadian topic and i write in british english i go by what is a commonly understoood word in british english and by what the grade 3 children at the amherst island public school can read. wikipedia is as i re-call to be a source of quality infomation for all ages .
As for bolding it is to remind what needed to be worked on next. but i will refrain from this my apologies. As for links I don't know how to put them as as a cited reference so I put them in the main body of the work trusting someone else with more skill can finish what I started - after-all this wikipedia.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Thechristiancontender (talk • contribs)
- I can see where you're coming from with archipelago and hamlet, but words like island and ferry don't need to be linked. External links, like to CJAI-FM's website, are normally kept in the "External links" section at the bottom of the page. To cite a source, just put the url inside ref tags, like:
- The toll ferry operates between Millhaven and Stella.
- There's more guidance at WP:CITE. Sorry for being a bit terse yesterday, I was in a bad mood. :) Feel free to ask me if you need any more help with anything. (Oh, and don't forget to sign your comments with ~~~~.) DoctorKubla (talk) 07:04, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
I just happened to see this section while adding my query below; and re "since this a canadian topic and i write in british english i go by what is a commonly understoood word in british english" that makes about as much sense as "ince this a canadian topic and i write in american english i go by what is a commonly understoood word in american english". Canadian English is not the same as British English; and both hamlet and archipelago are not "academic" words and are current in Canadian English; if kids aren't exposed to such words they will not learn anything; the same seems to be true of Wikipedians. There are some spelling similarities between British and Canadian English, but the similarity stops there; just because we were your colony doesn't mean we still are, nor should we be regarded as such.Skookum1 (talk) 12:40, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve
Hello Thechristiancontender,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, :{article}.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Gbawden (talk) 13:55, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Reasoning
I nominated this page because its a copy paste of the info from Lindisfarne. I would suggest that if you want to create a separate article do so in your Sandbox. Add the extra info, infobox and references and then publish it. Gbawden (talk) 14:14, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Your recent edits
Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when they said it. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 17:15, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Talkback
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the Talkback or Tb template.
Infoboxes
An infobox is a box summarizing key points about the subject. Have a look at WP:IBT. I have added the correct infobox to the page, you just need to fill in the information.

Lead in Nantucket
Hi Thechristiancontender, Thank you for your interest in Nantucket where I see that you have made some additions to the lead section. My earlier reversal was more that the entry did not, in the words of MOS:LEAD, contribute to the lead being "able to stand alone as a concise overview. It should define the topic, establish context, explain why the topic is notable, and summarize the most important points—including any prominent controversies. The emphasis given to material in the lead should roughly reflect its importance to the topic, according to reliable, published sources, and the notability of the article's subject is usually established in the first few sentences." Since the reference to the island's highpoint is covered under geography and does not contribute to an overview of the article, I suggest that it shouldn't be in the lead. Your reference is a welcome addition to the geographical section, however. Bear in mind that WP is really looking for references that base "articles on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy." (See WP:REF.) So, thank you, again for your interest in Wikipedia and Nantucket. (I'll watch this page for any response that you may wish to offer.) Sincerely, User:HopsonRoad 12:15, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for June 21
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Sidney Island, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page James Island (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
