Vandalism pt 17

Serge's 17th iteration of his own personal WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. Feel free to report anything you see may need intervention. Ferret may also answer queries, as we're both generally pretty active and on the same page when it comes to policy. Sergecross73 msg me 13:46, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Looks like someone got him on a username block before I got the chance to look into it. I imagine that's the end of things right there, but let me know if you see him editing under a new name. Sergecross73 msg me 13:46, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Would you mind protecting my talk page for a while? An IP-hopper added forum-like material to Talk:Mode 7, which I reverted, and has been going off on me. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 16:32, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Let me know if you want it shortened or lengthened. Sergecross73 msg me 16:48, 25 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Protected for 3 days. Just curious - anything in particular spur this? Nothing in the vandalism I spot-checked seemed to be about anything in particular other than vague general insults. Sergecross73 msg me 20:27, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just saw this, but yeah. Reports surfaced earlier this month that he was a part of a power struggle with then-current GM Scot McCloughan (now fired), who was well respected thorough-out the league and considered a scouting guru. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 15:25, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Haha, its fine, just general curiosity, since it wasn't readily apparent from the vandalism itself, and wasn't the type of thing that I had read from more mainstream general news or anything. Sergecross73 msg me 15:49, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I gave him a short block, because his edit summaries don't suggest good-faith editing, but kept it pretty short because the edits could seem plausible if he wasn't being so WP:POINTy, and because he's probably already using multiple IP addresses... Sergecross73 msg me 12:48, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • An IP user continuing to add PSN as a platform on the Tomba! article, despite me telling him in the edit summary that it shouldn't be done. Could the page be protected for a few days as a deterrent? ~ Dissident93 (talk) 15:23, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Protected. You've explained yourself fine in edit summaries, but if you could leave a note about your stance on the article talk page, that'd be best. I know he's probably unlikely to engage, but at least it'll show you tried, should this somehow be more drawn out in the future... Sergecross73 msg me 15:31, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
True, I'll go ahead and leave one now, which he is more likely to check now that the page is protected. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 15:36, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
True. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 15:49, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You may have missed this, but it's still happening there and other Kingdom Heart series pages, so the user may need an IP block (it seems to change every day or two). ~ Dissident93 (talk) 00:30, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Protected. -- ferret (talk) 00:40, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. I remember looking into this, but forgot to actually protect it. Sergecross73 msg me 00:52, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't take long for them to return: 45.247.113.54 (talk · contribs) --The1337gamer (talk) 16:37, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, must be fired up today or something. Blocked again, protected a few of the recent targets. Let me know if you find more. Sergecross73 msg me 16:44, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked the first one, Widr blocked the second one before I could get to it. Protected another article or two that's frequently getting targeted. Sergecross73 msg me 17:09, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked. Sergecross73 msg me 19:36, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Issued a level 2 warning for blanking. It's much easier to deal with an editor like this if warnings have already been issued. -- ferret (talk) 16:23, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, its obvious POV pushing, but I think a warning is enough for now. Let me know if it keeps happening though. Sergecross73 msg me 17:09, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Seems to happen daily, a block is likely needed soon as he/she makes no effort to respond or even state a reason why this needs to be removed. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 16:57, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Gave him a final warning. Let me know if he does it again. Sergecross73 msg me 17:01, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Blocked him, as he made the edit again without discussion or consensus. Sergecross73 msg me 19:36, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Serge, do you think it's OK to take protection off Sonic the Hedgehog? It's been five years now, and I doubt there will be any serious issues... ~ TheJoebro64 (talk) 18:14, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, wow, I don't think I meant to protect it that long. I think that was an accident (that dates back to around when I had first become and admin). I can't believe it hasn't really come up before now either. Yeah, I'll remove it. Sergecross73 msg me 18:41, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • The1337gamer Is this the same guy as the IP I've been blocking for weeks too? I wasn't aware that he was making accounts, but I guess it would make sense, with the number of articles I've had to protect. Sergecross73 msg me 18:17, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, same guy. --The1337gamer (talk) 18:18, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, looking through the edits, he uses the same sort of bizarre wording that doesn't make any sense too. Blocked, article G5'd. Sergecross73 msg me 18:22, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Blocked, deleted. (Don't get me started on what's wrong with the naming conventions of those drafts...) Sergecross73 msg me 17:05, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just needed to be undone, the IP removed the table row marker. -- ferret (talk) 18:30, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Alright. I didn't want to mess it up even more cause I don't know how to do the table row stuff. Thanks, ferret. Zacharyalejandro (talk) 18:52, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wow, and they even stole my userpage and pretended to be an Admin. Deleted, blocked, protected, etc. Sergecross73 msg me 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ye, they duplicated my old userpage on a previous account Hussein saaed sonic (talk · contribs). Weird behaviour. --The1337gamer (talk) 17:25, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • There's these IPs who keep vandalizing the "Legacy" section of Sonic the Hedgehog. They keep adding the line "Sonic has since moved on to teaching ITC classes". I've reverted them three times now, could you try to do something about it? ~ TheJoebro64 (talk) 11:18, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Haha, maybe that's why I had protected the page so long before. Re-added for 2 weeks for now. Any idea what the vandalism is about though? Is this some sort of meme or something? Or is it just random? Sergecross73 msg me 13:02, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm guessing it's random: nothing showed up when I Googled it. ~ TheJoebro64 (talk) 00:38, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rami Jaffee

"Touring members don't go on timeline"

Per citation (https://www.alternativenation.net/dave-grohl-announces-new-foo-fighters-member/), Dave Grohl considers Rami has been a member since that time:

> Grohl responded, “”Who, Rami? Rami’s been in for 14 years or something, it’s been awhile.”

Further, he has appeared on all recordings since then, and was credited with the band on the Sonic Highways TV show. - CraigBox (talk) 17:11, 3 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure "he's been in" is a very good clarification on being an official member or a touring member... Sergecross73 msg me 17:13, 3 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
He has also appeared on the recordings. Where's the policy on what goes in a timeline and what doesn't? CraigBox (talk) 17:25, 3 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
We usually prefer that we have a source that literally says "Person X is a member of Band Y" whenever there are people unsure of the official status. (And people are unsure here - if you look at the page history people have been arguing about Rami these last few days.) Bands frequently have studio members contribute for years before being members, or sometimes they never do at all. Per WP:BURDEN though, it'd be up to you to provide a source to verify this. It may be better to start up a discussion at the Foo Fighters talk page to get more input on this. Sergecross73 msg me 17:39, 3 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sonic '06 reception

Hey Serge, can you help me re-write the reception section on this article? I'm horrible at writing my own reception sections (see my work on Sonic Gems Collection as an example) ~ TheJoebro64 (talk) 15:13, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I can try to help some this week. Keep in mind I don't usually bother with the FA process though, so I don't know much about meeting specifically whatever a FA reviewer is going to want to see. Sergecross73 msg me 15:46, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

LTPofficial

LTPofficial has been editing a bunch of The Sims articles to include the Japanese name, even though none of the games had a Japanese developer nor were originally released in Japan. I've already left a message on his talk page (and explained in some edit summaries), explaining that it goes against guidelines WP:VG/JP, but refuses to give a reason for doing so and has re-introduced the name to one of them here. Would you mind helping out? --ThomasO1989 (talk) 13:56, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I can, if you want, but I'm reading that dif you presented above, as him saying he's going to stop. You're completely right with your reverts, though I personally don't see an issue with his later action - instead going for a sourced mention in the development and release type section. I find that sort of thing can be interesting, and could be a good compromise. If you don't agree though, let me know, and we'll take it from there. Sergecross73 msg me 17:43, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Saint Cecilia (song)

Regarding the article Saint Cecilia (song), please can you format your references properly and not just use bare URL's. Otherwise it is just the work of beginner standard and is not good to rely on other people to do it for you.QuintusPetillius (talk) 08:42, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice, but I'm fine with bare urls. I'd rather keep moving and work on other things, and leave that to others, who seem more concerned with it. I appreciate it when you or others help with it, but I'm not expecting or requiring anyone do it. If you, or anyone else, is tired of it, feel free to not do it at all. Obvious socks,

I do believe that Kellymoat is trying to evade her block with these two accounts:

Can you have a look into it please as their edit pattern are the same. Wynetia (talk) 05:55, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I do see some similarities, but I'm not sure there's enough to confirm that they're socks. For starters, both accounts age actually predate Kellymoats by a number of months. While its possible Kellymoat would create a number of accounts in anticipation of such an event, it seems kind of unlikely, considering KM started their account in August 2016 and didn't have any issues with being blocked until around May 2017. The other issue is that one of the main things in common between them is reverting that MariaJay person or whatever. Not terribly familiar with all of that, but it's my understanding that there's quite a few people who do this. So I'm not sure they can be automatically linked as socks if this is, in reality, something a number of separate editors do.
I'd recommend bringing it to WP:SPI if you want to pursue this. You may be right, I just don't feel comfortable doing a WP:DUCK block - it would require more looking into. Sergecross73 msg me 13:15, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocking users

User:TheElderDarkStar and User:TheDarkPyrano is now changed about making false edits so will forgive me to ask at wikipedia but do you want to change the unblock?
