Osvaldo Ardiles Haay (born 17 May 1998, in Jayapura, Indonesia) is a professional footballer that can operate as a left winger or left back.[1]

Club career

Persipura Jayapura

2015 was the year Haay made his senior debut aged 17. Separately, he played for the Persipura Jayapura U-21 squad. He has emerged as a young player who led Persipura Jayapura to the Torabika Bhayangkara Cup 2016, for him it was a trial to prove whether he made the first-team.[2] Starting against Arema Cronus F.C., he netted his first goal on the first team roster.[3]

International career

In 2016, Persipura Jayapura chose not to release him and fellow youth international Marinus Wanewar ahead of the 2016 AFF U-19 Youth Championship to play for Indonesia. Persipura Jayapura Management said that 'if they both go, three other members were also called to the national team; this equalizes into five members lost in total, it is inevitable that there would be a problem' he concluded. However, that coincided with injury with captain Boaz Solossa. With his absence, they require attackers.[4][5]

Along with Muhammad Tahir, Osvaldo Haay strengthened and enhanced the PON Papua team that would compete in the 2016 Pekan Olahraga Nasional, provisionally leaving his team and returning after the event.[6]

He made his international debut for Indonesia on 21 March 2017, against Myanmar, where he coming as a substitute.[7]

Personal life

Osvaldo's mother, Buanitawati came from Banyuwangi, East Java whereas his father, Edison Haay came from Papua. Notwithstanding the fact that he was born and bred in Papua, Haay understands some of the Javanese language derived from his mother's side. According to the footballer, he had visited the ancestral heritage homeland in Banyuwangi. Haay sees Eden Hazard as a motivation to play football and generally supports Chelsea.[8] He is currently also enrolled as a student at the Faculty of Economics, Cenderawasih University.
