Technopark campus

Technopark Kerala, located at Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), India, is India's first industrial park dedicated to electronics, software, and IT ventures. Started in 1990, the park currently has 1.5 million sq. ft. (156 acres) of built-up space available, and another 600,000 sq. ft. of space coming up. The park is home to over 100 companies, which employ more than 10,000 professionals. The companies include one CMMI level 5 and PCMM level 5 company, four CMM Level 5, two CMM Level 3 and several ISO 9001 certified companies.

Technopark is promoted by the Government of Kerala, with a mandate to promote entrepreneurship and employment in the region. The policy of economic liberalisation initiated by the Government of India in 1991 and the rapid growth of the global software industry during the 1990s has substantially contributed to the growth of Technopark. Over 70% of Kerala's IT exports are from Technopark .

The admininstration of the campus is carried out from the Park Centre. It houses the administrative offices including that of the CEO. It also has a state-of-the-art convention centre as well as multiple conference rooms, a large library and office facilities. The Technology Incubation cell and Software Competency Centre is situated in Park Centre.

The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled.

New Projects

Inside a plug-and-play building

Technopark will be constructing a 6 lakh sq ft state of the art building inside the campus. This 11 floor centrally air conditioned building will have facilities for basement parking and roof top restaurants. This will be the single largest office structure in the state of Kerala. 86 acres of land, adjoining the campus, has been acquired. Out of this, 50 acres has been ear marked for Infosys and the balance 36 acres for US Technology Resources . Tata Consultancy Services(TCS) has been allotted 25 acres within the campus for their software development centre . This is in addition to the 14 acres of land allotted to them for setting up their new training centre which will be the largest in the world. IBS Software has been allotted 5 acres of land for constructing a 2 lakh sq. ft. office . Tata Elxsi Limited which is the product design arm of the US$14 billion Tata Group, has also taken 3.5 acres to build its state of the art design and development Centre.

STPI and the Leela Group have also been allotted land within the campus to construct their own buildings. The Taj Group of Hotels has entered into an agreement to set up a 100 room business class hotel inside the Technopark campus. The hotel, to built on one acre of land, will realize the long standing demand for quality accommodation within the park. Firms like L&T and the Rahejas are planning major developments within and around Technopark as well. L&T has already announced its plans to set up a 35 acre hybrid IT-and-residential park as part of Technopark Phase III .

The 2nd and 3rd phase of expansion of the park along with the ramping up of operations of the existing IT units are expected to see an investment of around Rs. 1000 cr and an additional employment creation of 20,000.

Infrastructure

There are presently 6 buildings inside the Technopark Campus for Software devolopment. The buildings in Technopark are named after the rivers of Kerala - Pamba, Periyar, Nila, Chandragiri, Gayatri and Bhavani. The 7th building is named Thejaswini, which is the latest and largest one in the line, with 600,000 sft area and is getting commissioned in October, 2006. There are also buildings of private enterprises such as TCS, M-Square, IVL etc.

Technopark offers electricity through a 110 KV, 30 MVA dedicated internal power distribution system with built in redundancies at all levels. Technopark is a licensee for distribution of power in the campus. Water supply is distributed through a dedicated water distribution system by Technopark. Excellent support facilities like Earth station, a 200 seat international convention center, club, guest-house, restaurants and conference rooms on campus ensure low-cost access to world class services. Further, setting up units is accelerated by exemption from state-level clearances, as well as ready-to-use incubation facilities. .

The units in the park are mostly joint ventures and subsidiaries of foreign companies engaged in a wide variety of activities which include embedded software development, smart card technology, ERP, process control software design, engineering CAD software development, IT enabled services, re-engineering, animation and E-business.

With the inauguration of this massive sixth industrial modules building, Kerala Technopark is now India's largest software park and one of Asia's top three software parks. Bhavani's 55,000 sq. ft. x 6 floors of 'column-free' office space houses 130 modules of ideal industrial space and 22 IT modules on each floor planned around a large landscaped atrium. Multiple level redundancies in the power infrastructure support both the campus as well as each individual building. With an optic fibre cable landing at a BSNL exchange 100 m. away and multiple satellite earth stations on campus, the new building is the most impressive in Technopark and Asia's most uniquely ready-to-use facility for the IT sector today.
