Hereditary is a 2018 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Ari Aster in his feature debut. It stars Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd, and Gabriel Byrne.

The film premiered on January 21, 2018 at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival in the Midnight section.[1] It will be released on June 8, 2018.[2]

Synopsis

When the matriarch of the Graham family dies, her daughter, Annie (Collette), suspects a presence was left behind, which has a bizarre focus on her teenage granddaughter, Charlie (Shapiro). With the household under threat by a supernatural force, Annie must explore the darkness to escape their inherited fate.[3]

The film will be released in the United Kingdom on June 15, 2018.[4]

Reception

Early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 100% based on 26 reviews, with an average rating of 9/10.[5] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 89 out of 100, based on 13 critics, indicating "universal acclaim".[6]
