Digimon World DS (デジモンストーリー Dejimon Sutōrī) is the first Digimon game for the Nintendo DS. The original Japanese name of this game is Digimon Story. It's an RPG and bears a resemblance to Digimon World 3 in and out of battle. It features 300 Digimon and uses Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to match Digimon (Previous reports of this game containing online battles and online trades have been proven to be false. However, local vs. battle and trade does in fact exist). Naruo Uchida, Namco Bandai's Vice President of Localization, has said “With the type of gameplay Digimon World DS offers, this makes it the perfect title for the portable platform, the Nintendo DS.”[1]

Storyline

Sometime in the 21st century, the rapid developments in computer technology have spawned, in the Digital World, various life forms known as Digital Monsters. In the real world, it has been rumored that these facts were covered up by the DATS organization under the National Public Safety Commission. To check out the rumors, the main character and some friends sneak into the school computer room, whereupon the main character is transported to the Digital World.

New Digimon

Digimon World DS marks the first appearance for several Digimon, some that later appear in Digimon Savers, like Gawappamon, the evolution of Kamemon. Chronomon DM/Chronomon HM, the game's final boss, also makes his first appearance.

The game also introduces two special Digimon, DotAgumon and DotFalcomon, both of which have the appearance of sprites from a V-Pet. These Digimon seem to have no special qualities except being able to be de-evolved back into their Baby forms, then evolved into more powerful Digimon.

Unusual Evolutions

Digimon World DS has some rather unusual evolution lines for some of its Digimon; some Digimon have their true (according to the series) higher forms in the game, but can't become it.

  • Impmon can't become Beezlemon, his true Mega form as shown in Digimon Tamers. Instead, Infermon evolves into Beezlemon.
  • Neither of Lopmon's true Champions, Turuiemon or Wendigomon, are in the game; instead, Lopmon evolves to Wizardmon, who then evolves to Antylamon and Cherubimon, Lopmon's natural Ultimate and Mega.
  • BlackWarGrowlmon cannot evolve into ChaosGallantmon, despite it being in the game. Instead, Antylamon does.
  • Poyomon evolves into Gomamon instead of evolving into Tokomon.
  • Leomon evolves into Monzaemon instead of SaberLeomon (Rapidmon gets that honor). However, if it could, then Leomon would be going straight from Champion form to Mega form
  • Cyberdramon cannot evolve into Justimon (but SuperStarmon can). Instead, it evolves into Ghoulmon.

Digimon known to be included

There are approximately 300 Digimon found in the game, the following 254 (~85%) have been confirmed:
