Delta Streets Academy (DSA) is a Christian school located in Greenwood, Mississippi. The school is open for males in the 7-12 grade. The school is operating at First Baptist Church in Greenwood, Mississippi. The school enrolls sixty students from Greenwood, Mississippi.

Location

Delta Streets Academy is located in Greenwood, Mississippi. The school holds classes at 205 E Church St, Greenwood MS 38930.

History

Delta Streets was started in 2012 as a camp for children in Greenwood.[citation needed]

T.Mac Howard, who previously taught at Greenwood High School, established a day school in 2012, stating that he felt dissatisfied with discipline issues in the public school system. The First Baptist Church served as the temporary location of the classrooms, and agreed to do so for no charge. Howard began serving as the bus driver, marketing official, janitor, and coach of the American football team. The initial enrollment was 14 students,[1] with the school initially only having grades 7 and 8. The school expanded with new grade levels in subsequent years.[2] In 2013, more than twenty boys enrolled at DSA. DSA also in 2013-2014 school year expanded to 9th grade.[citation needed] In 2014 Delta Streets received accreditation Mississippi Association of Independent Schools. In 2015 the school had 60 students, all African-American,[1] and the enrollment was about the same in 2018. The students tend to be from low income backgrounds.[3]

The school began construction on its permanent facility, and students were assisting the construction.[3] It was scheduled to open in fall 2018.[2]

Funding

As of 2015 donations from private sources make up almost all of the funding for the school. It holds the Delta Streets Charity Weekend every year.[1]

Sports

Delta Streets Academy participates in football and basketball in their athletic program for grades 7-11th. The first year of sports for DSA (2013–2014), saw the football team go 4-2 in their games.[citation needed]

Delta Streets Academy ended their 2014 Football Season with a win over Rebul Academy, which capped off a 2-7 season. DSA will begin their first Basketball season against Humphreys Academy on November 7. This will also be DSA's first year of Track & Field.

Delta Streets's Junior High basketball team won their District championship in 2015, which was their first MAIS title in any sport.

Delta Streets Academy is participating in its third football season; it is currently 2-8.[citation needed]
