The Hills Have Eyes 2 is the sequel to Alexandre Aja’s 2006 remake of the 1977 film, written by Wes Craven, called The Hills Have Eyes. The Hills Have Eyes 2 is expected to begin filming this September. The film is currently in post-production and according to Fangoria.com the film comes to theatres March 2, 2007.[1]

Cast

Plot

The Hills Have Eyes 2 follows a team of National Guard cadets stops over at a desert outpost to deliver equipment to military scientists. They arrive at the research camp to find it mysteriously deserted, hearing a distress call on their walkies, they set off to investigate, thinking that they are heading out to simple rescue mission into the hills. They soon find a tribe of mutants, damaged by nuclear testing, who lie in wait for them. The mutants will then proceed to kill the cadets off, one by one, but not without losing some of their own.

Mutants

Joblo.com received an official synopsis and character description, because of how the descriptions are written, the document may have been used as a casting call for filming in Morrocco. The casting calls for four new mutants. Like the remake, this film's names for the mutants, seem to reflect their personalities or how they should be perceived. [2]

Hades is described as being "huge. The leader of, and the largest of, the mutants - has a face sort of like a mandrill; truly terrifying."[2] Hades is being portrayed by Michael Bailey Smith, who portrayed Pluto in the previous film. The name Hades represents his role in the film as being a leader with the same name as the mythological figure, Hades. The mythological figure is also, perhaps not coincdentally, known as Pluto.

Hansel is described as being in his "30s, huge and hulking, but with a childlike demeanor - an enormous simpleton. He helps Amber and Napoleon when they're trying to rescue Missy - but it later turns out he's not as innocent as he seems..."[2] The name Hansel is most likely a reference to the children's tale Hansel and Gretel because of his "childlike demeanor".

Chameleon is described as "A bald mutant, large, muscular, his skin changes color to match his surroundings. Along with Hades, the most prominent of the mutants. He grabs Missy, drags her into the mines and holds her hostage."[2] Chameleon's name is a direct reference to the chameleon animal, that has the ability to change its color according to its environment.

The last mutant is Grabber, described as "A large mutant, scarred, hard-muscled, but nearsighted and relies on his sense of smell in the dark. He attacks Amber, only to be fought off by Mickey."[2] Grabber's name may be a reference to his nearsightedness and that he grabs to find his victims.

In addition to those, mutants named Letcher and Stabber will appear.

Director

Alexandre Aja, the director of the remake, will not be directing this sequel. Craven originally looked at Michael J. Bassett, the director of Deathwatch, to take over the directing role, but ultimately chose Martin Weisz after scheduling conflicts with Bassett. Weisz is a video and commercial director, who has directed videos for such artists as Brandy, Puff Daddy (Diddy), Korn, Nickelback, and JC Chasez. Along with his over 350 music video credits, he directed the controversial German film Rohtenburg, that was inspired by the real life story of the "Cannibal of Rothenburg", Armin Meiwes, who mutilated, killed, then ate a man who had previously agreed to Meiwes doing so to him. On March 3, 2006 the state court in Kassel upheld a complaint from Meiwes against the film. The court ruled that Meiwes' rights as an individual outweighed artistic freedom and the film was banned for release in Germany (and later released worldwide). [3]
