For the reasons unknown the Unified Team head coach Kontsantin Koptzev dropped the team's top light heavyweight [[Andrey Kurnyavka]], who qualified for the Games, and previously defeated [[Torsten May]], [[Angel Espinosa]], and fellow [[Rostyslav Zaulychnyi]], out from the team. That unpopular decision affected level of the competition heavily.
