Opened in 2007, Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort is located in a quiet rural location in open countryside, between the village of Sucina and the mountains of Sierra de Carrascoy - an area which has been designated a regional natural park - in the Region of Murcia, in south-east Spain. Yet it is just twenty minutes from the beach [1]and Aeropuerto Internacional Región de Murcia[2] at Corvera[3].

The resort’s buildings keep the charm of the area alive, such as the old manor house, now fully restored as a clubhouse and town centre. The apartments look out over the Nicklaus designed golf course and retain the colonial style of the Riquelme family[4] constructions, which gives its name to the resort.[5]

The prestigious Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort contains 1864, low-level apartments in 78 blocks, a restaurant[6], bar[7], golf shop[8], and supermarket[9]. The resort covers 1,353.041 metre², with a build area of only 5% of the total area, scattered around an 18 hole golf course[10]. An old dovecote has been converted into a cocktail bar[11], right on the golf course itself.

Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort offers, as well as the Nicklaus designed[12], 18 hole golf course, a driving range[13], putting [14]and chipping greens. The golf course[15] is a par 72 and 6416-metre course. It covers an area of 71 hectares and has a mountain backdrop and panoramic views of the coast.

The Region of Murcia has an excellent climate of over 320 days sunshine per year[16] and warm winters.

The El Casón de Riquelme Restaurant, set in the resort's 19th-century colonial-style Hacienda, has seating inside and an outside terrace area, looking out over the original walled gardens.

The resort’s onsite bar, located in the restored Hacienda, serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and a wide variety of both local and international drinks throughout the day.

The rest of the resort centre follows the same architectural style and contains a golf shop[17] and supermarket[18][19].

The El Palomar Bar Cocktail Bar is built in the structure of a former dovecote and is situated just outside the Hacienda Riquelme town-centre. The bar overlooks the golf course and is open for drinks and snacks during the summer. In the bar, as well as alcoholic drinks, you can order soft drinks and coffees.

During the summer months, the al-fresco Italian Restaurante opens up in the courtyard of the Hacienda, serving a variety of authentic Italian cuisine including pasta and pizza dishes, which are also available to take away.

The apartments on Hacienda Riquelme were designed by Antonio Aleman Architects and supported by careful attention to landscape, developed by EDSA - a design company in America for tourist complexes. The resort has 24-hour security patrols, entry control, and CCTV coverage.

Hacienda Riquelme’s own on-site supermarket [20][21]is situated in the resort's town-centre.

The resort has a wide variety of outdoor sports facilities available too. Apart from the golf course and practice facilities, the resort boasts a sports area with two tennis courts, two padel courts, two Pétanque lanes and a multi-purpose sports pitch with markings and nets for basketball and soccer. At busy times of the year, the resort tries to organise sporting events to keep the kids entertained. There is an open-air gym with several pieces of apparatuses. The facilities are free to use for those staying at the resort, but bring your own equipment.

The youngsters aren’t forgotten either when it comes to having fun at our first-rate complex. Dotted around the resort, there are numerous enclosed, imaginatively designed, play areas with slides, swings and climbing frames to keep the youngsters amused.

Hacienda Riquelme Golf Course is a Nicklaus Design[22] 18 hole, par 72 links-styled parkland golf course with no two holes the same. The golf course has been built to international and championship standards - it features four sets of tees per hole. The golf course is 6416 metres long and covers an area of 71 hectares.

Hacienda Riquelme's golf practice facility[23] has been designed to focus on iron play and short game skills. There is a full-length driving range with 20 natural turf practice tees, with three target areas that are shaped to resemble actual golf holes. They feature the same bunker-style as the golf course. As well, there is a separate short game, and chipping, green. With double-size steep sided green-side bunkers facing off to the extensive chipping green. And a multi-tiered approach fairway with semi-rough areas facing onto the chipping green. Finally, fairway bunker facing off to the driving range, designed for practicing long-range bunker shots.

The Golf-Pro Shop[24] is open to customers in the resort's restored town-centre Hacienda facility. It stocks golfing attire as well as manual and electric trolleys, buggies and golf clubs for hire.

Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort is less than 20 kilometres from the protected natural areas below:

  • Carrascoy y El Valle Regional Park[25]
  • Salinas Arenas de San Pedro del Pinatar Regional Park[26]
  • Espacios Abiertos and Islas del Mar Menor Protected Landscape[27]
  • Cabezo Gordo Protected Landscape[28]

Also, Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort is near or very near to several ZEPA (Zona de Especial Protección para las Aves / Zone with Special Protection for Birds) zones:

  • Monte El Valle, Sierras de Altaona and Escalona[29]
  • Mar Menor[30]
  • Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar[31]

The village of Sucina is just a few minutes from the resort, by car, with shops, banks, and restaurants including Spanish, Italian & Indian. The seaside town of Los Alcazares with sandy beaches, shallow sea, and restaurants is about 20 minutes drive, and Balsicas railway station is 15 minutes away, with its high speed train links to Murcia, Cartagena, Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Albacete and Valencia etc.

The airport at Corvera [32]is 20 minutes away, whilst the airport at Alicante is 60 minutes away.

The resort has benefited from the building of Murcia's RM-1 motorway. This makes the resort much more accessible and allows residents and holidaymakers quick access to Sucina, the beach and airports.
