Revision as of 04:12, 21 December 2006

If you wish to leave a message for me, I have a few guidelines to help me read and reply to your message easier. First, to add a new message, click the + sign at the top of the page. Then, type a subject in the title box so that I will know what you are writing about, and I will be able to identify your message easily in the Table of Contents at the top of this page. Finally, before you send the message, please make sure that you sign it, using four tildes (~~~~), or by pressing the "Your signature with timestamp" button on the toolbar above the talk box. It is the third button from the right, beside the box with the red X. It is more difficult for me to reply if you do not sign the message, or just type your name.

Also, if you wish, you may look at my older messages dating back to when I joined wikipedia in March, 2006 at my message archive.

Thank you, and I look forward to helping you here in Wikiland!

Suggestion

Hi willy,

This is Sushant. Well don't you find it inconvinient to read the new message on your talkpage. Why don't you start up with a new discussion and archive this page. Well I am sorry if you don't like my suggestion.

thankyou Sushant gupta 08:38, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Archiving Talk pages

Willy: My method may not be the best, or the recommended way (which I could not find under help) but it is easy and preserves the history.

  • 1. I change the name of my talk page to an appropriate archive name:

(ie Change name User_Talk:Vaoverland to User_Talk:Vaoverland/archive1)

  • 2. I create a new page User_Talk:Vaoverland
  • 3. I copy or cut from the new archive page whatever portion I want to still be on my new talk page. I add a link to my archive page(s) before the new messages begin. (look at my talk page for an example)
  • 4. I delete from the archive page anything that shouldn't be there, such as the invitation to leave new messages, add an appropriate title at the top (such as dates covered) and my user name and the fact it is an archive of messages, requesting that no one make changes.
  • 5. I haven't followed all of these procedures as well as I should, and I also am overdue to make another archive page.
  • 6. If you do not do this or something similar, when your talk page gets too full, you will unexpectedly start getting strange errors. I found that out the hard way.
  • 7. Having reminded me, I will go ahead and archive my current Talk Page.
  • 8. One last thought: Sometimes I leave a few recent messages on the new talk page if there is an issue or dialog in process at the time of archive. I break it at a logical point, not necessarily just by date.

Let me know if you have trouble, or figure out an easier way. <gr> P.S. I'd love to see your verbal SAT score. Mark Vaoverland 09:26, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

    • I just did my fifth archive page, following the preceeding procedure. A couple of comments about my directions. The way to change your current talk page to your archive1 is to use the MOVE command. This automatically creates a redirect, which you will see. Go to that redirect page, and change it to the content you want on your new talk page. I can do it quicker and more accurately than I can explain, so if you wish, I would be glad to do it for you. It took me all of 10 minutes to do mine. Yours, Mark Vaoverland 09:41, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Protected redirect

has been removed. Tom Harrison Talk 13:44, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I've just fixed the redirect for this page. I noticed that you proposed it for speedy deletion. I removed the tag because the reason no longer applies. Just wanted to let you know. Jakew 13:45, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Changes on your userpage

Hi willy!

Please do not mind but I have done a minor change (userbox) on your userpage. Sushant gupta 12:50, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Removing protected broken redirect

The page User:MarkS/Extra edit buttons/dev2.js contains a broken redirect and needs to be removed. Thanks a lot. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 00:14, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I can delete it, but I would prefer getting a note directly from the wikipedian who created it. It's a subpage of MarkS's userpage. Thanks for letting me know, anyway. --PFHLai 00:27, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

User:Glen redirect

I deleted it -- it didn't look protected to me, but maybe that's how .js pages work. NawlinWiki 12:58, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

How to design a template?

Hi Willy!!!

This is Sushant. I want to create a navigational search template for the lakes of Himachal Pradesh. Can you tell me how create that. Thanks Sushant gupta 14:20, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Did you mean copy the codings from another similar template and make the required changes in the template. Well yes I think that this could be done and it is easy way too. Thanks Sushant gupta 02:17, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Invitation

Hello! You look like someone who might be interested in joining the Virginia WikiProject and so I thought I'd drop you a line and invite you! We'd love to have you help us :-) T REXspeak 03:29, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Re:template

Take a look @ this. Some of the articles (with red link) are under development (which I have added to the navigational template). Within a month I will be writing these articles (of which I have mentioned in the template). Thanks Sushant gupta 14:23, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Lakes of himachal pradesh

Now take a look at the template. Remember I said it would be taking me around a month to complete, but I tried my best and completed in just 3 hours. All the articles of which I have created a link in the template have been written by me. If you got some spare time then do take a look at those articles also. Well some changes are to be done like embedding images and infoboxes. But the work is nearly done. Sushant gupta 16:07, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

my work on template and lakes of HP

Hey Willy!!! I have completed my work. Please check out the template, I have made some changes in that. The work on Lakes of Himachal Pradesh has been done. Thanks Sushant gupta 15:52, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for your help. I think I got it to work. Recordnet 03:59, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: my comment in the redirect "Μ operator" which you removed

At least twice, the article "Mu operator" has been moved, in violation of policy, to "Μ operator" by different people. I feel that the message is needed to discourage them from doing that. JRSpriggs 10:50, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

RSS Atom

Hey Willy, May I know what is RSS Atom. Thanks Sushant gupta 10:48, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

R to disambiguation page

Please can you explain to me why you have removed the R to disambiguation page template from Chobham (disambiguation), Chobham (disambiguation), and Melrose (disambiguation)? I put it in because of what it says at Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Construction, and I've put it in at least a dozen other pages - so if it is wrong I need to know... Thank you CarolGray 20:27, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

The problem is therefore my typing error, and I have fixed it. Thank you very much for your help CarolGray 13:13, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Special:BrokenRedirects having problems again

Flooding bugzilla with bug reports isn't the way to get it fixed, it'll just annoy the devs. I've whined in the #wikimedia-tech channel on IRC, but we're just going to have to deal with it until it gets fixed. --Rory096 02:30, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't have any better access to contacting them than anybody else; anybody can use Bugzilla. --Rory096 20:55, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

2007 for you

Hey Willy I know that you have no interest in astrology but I feel like telling you about the upcoming year for you. Patience would be the keyword for you in 2007. Laziness would be very costly for you. Help is expected from an unexpected source. Well I haven't gone into much detail as you are not so interested in this field. Thanks Sushant gupta 11:47, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thank you so much for the help. I copied content from Category:Scouting in Australia to Category:Scouting in India and replaced "Australia" with "India". I was just wondering how did you find me. Does helpme list the page in an automated system? Jyothisingh 13:46, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi

This template must be substituted, see Template:Smile for instructions want to be friends? WikiMan53 T/C edits 23:00, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Starlight

Hey,

Have you ever heard of www.starlight.org or the Starlight program? They donate toys and things to kids in the hospital to make their stay less scary. Please donate at www.starlight.org/friends/michael

Hi. You did some work on this article. I'm now proposing a redirect to Pale Ale, similar to the original redirect. American strong ale is a variation on pale ale, and the different variations are best initially discussed in the main article. Later, if enough information grows, we can split it off, but for now it might be best to allow it to grow in a place where attention could be concentrated. SilkTork

Increase Mather

Please see Talk:Increase_Mather#Screw_it_screw_it_screw_it_screw_it. --Flex (talk|contribs) 01:07, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

"Increaſe Mather"

Don't worry about that, I've reverted it per User:Flex's comment, but to tell the truth I was unaware of that rule myself (Hence my annoyance at the time). 68.39.174.238 07:21, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Administrator nomination

Willy, as we have discussed, you have worked this year towards the goals I urged you to mature as a Wikipedian and earn the votes to become trusted as a WP Administrator. I am glad to be able to support you in this goal. I feel very confident that you will be accepted as an admin and join our ranks, to our mutual benefit. Vaoverland 07:56, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

How to get support for my RfA

I was recently nominated to become an administrator on Wikipedia, and I accepted the nomination. What I want to do is contact other users to ask for their comments and support for this process. Is there an easy template I can use to do this? --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 21:54, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi there, congratulations. If you need that template, it would probably be in the templates page, you can find that in my Help Desk under the "Useful links: Troubleshooting, tips & templates" section,

Regards

Dep. Garcia (Talk) (Help Desk) 21:58, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Request for Adminship

It is my regretful task to inform you that I have closed your request for adminship early as unlikely to achieve consensus. Please do not be discouraged; a number of users have had their first RfA end without consensus, but have been promoted overwhelmingly in a later request. Please continue to make outstanding contributions to Wikipedia, and consider requesting adminship again in the future. You may find Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship helpful in deciding when to consider running again. If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to ask.
