Suggestion
Hi willy,
This is Sushant. Well don't you find it inconvinient to read the new message on your talkpage. Why don't you start up with a new discussion and archive this page. Well I am sorry if you don't like my suggestion.
thankyou Sushant gupta 08:38, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Archiving Talk pages
Willy: My method may not be the best, or the recommended way (which I could not find under help) but it is easy and preserves the history.
- 1. I change the name of my talk page to an appropriate archive name:
(ie Change name User_Talk:Vaoverland to User_Talk:Vaoverland/archive1)
- 2. I create a new page User_Talk:Vaoverland
- 3. I copy or cut from the new archive page whatever portion I want to still be on my new talk page. I add a link to my archive page(s) before the new messages begin. (look at my talk page for an example)
- 4. I delete from the archive page anything that shouldn't be there, such as the invitation to leave new messages, add an appropriate title at the top (such as dates covered) and my user name and the fact it is an archive of messages, requesting that no one make changes.
- 5. I haven't followed all of these procedures as well as I should, and I also am overdue to make another archive page.
- 6. If you do not do this or something similar, when your talk page gets too full, you will unexpectedly start getting strange errors. I found that out the hard way.
- 7. Having reminded me, I will go ahead and archive my current Talk Page.
- 8. One last thought: Sometimes I leave a few recent messages on the new talk page if there is an issue or dialog in process at the time of archive. I break it at a logical point, not necessarily just by date.
Let me know if you have trouble, or figure out an easier way. <gr> P.S. I'd love to see your verbal SAT score. Mark Vaoverland 09:26, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- I just did my fifth archive page, following the preceeding procedure. A couple of comments about my directions. The way to change your current talk page to your archive1 is to use the MOVE command. This automatically creates a redirect, which you will see. Go to that redirect page, and change it to the content you want on your new talk page. I can do it quicker and more accurately than I can explain, so if you wish, I would be glad to do it for you. It took me all of 10 minutes to do mine. Yours, Mark Vaoverland 09:41, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Removing protected broken redirect
The page User:MarkS/Extra edit buttons/dev2.js contains a broken redirect and needs to be removed. Thanks a lot. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 00:14, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I can delete it, but I would prefer getting a note directly from the wikipedian who created it. It's a subpage of MarkS's userpage. Thanks for letting me know, anyway. --PFHLai 00:27, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

How to design a template?
Hi Willy!!!
This is Sushant. I want to create a navigational search template for the lakes of Himachal Pradesh. Can you tell me how create that. Thanks Sushant gupta 14:20, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Did you mean copy the codings from another similar template and make the required changes in the template. Well yes I think that this could be done and it is easy way too. Thanks Sushant gupta 02:17, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Hello! You look like someone who might be interested in joining the Virginia WikiProject and so I thought I'd drop you a line and invite you! We'd love to have you help us :-) T REXspeak 03:29, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Re:template
Take a look @ this. Some of the articles (with red link) are under development (which I have added to the navigational template). Within a month I will be writing these articles (of which I have mentioned in the template). Thanks Sushant gupta 14:23, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Lakes of himachal pradesh
Now take a look at the template. Remember I said it would be taking me around a month to complete, but I tried my best and completed in just 3 hours. All the articles of which I have created a link in the template have been written by me. If you got some spare time then do take a look at those articles also. Well some changes are to be done like embedding images and infoboxes. But the work is nearly done. Sushant gupta 16:07, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
my work on template and lakes of HP
Hey Willy!!! I have completed my work. Please check out the template, I have made some changes in that. The work on Lakes of Himachal Pradesh has been done. Thanks Sushant gupta 15:52, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks!
Thanks for your help. I think I got it to work. Recordnet 03:59, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

At least twice, the article "Mu operator" has been moved, in violation of policy, to "Μ operator" by different people. I feel that the message is needed to discourage them from doing that. JRSpriggs 10:50, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

R to disambiguation page
Please can you explain to me why you have removed the R to disambiguation page template from Chobham (disambiguation), Chobham (disambiguation), and Melrose (disambiguation)? I put it in because of what it says at Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Construction, and I've put it in at least a dozen other pages - so if it is wrong I need to know... Special:BrokenRedirects having problems again
Flooding bugzilla with bug reports isn't the way to get it fixed, it'll just annoy the devs. I've whined in the #wikimedia-tech channel on IRC, but we're just going to have to deal with it until it gets fixed. --Rory096 02:30, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi. You did some work on this article. I'm now proposing a redirect to Pale Ale, similar to the original redirect. American strong ale is a variation on pale ale, and the different variations are best initially discussed in the main article. Later, if enough information grows, we can split it off, but for now it might be best to allow it to grow in a place where attention could be concentrated. SilkTork

Administrator nomination
Willy, as we have discussed, you have worked this year towards the goals I urged you to mature as a Wikipedian and earn the votes to become trusted as a WP Administrator. I am glad to be able to support you in this goal. I feel very confident that you will be accepted as an admin and join our ranks, to our mutual benefit. Vaoverland 07:56, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
How to get support for my RfA
I was recently nominated to become an administrator on Wikipedia, and I accepted the nomination. What I want to do is contact other users to ask for their comments and support for this process. Is there an easy template I can use to do this? --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 21:54, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi there, congratulations. If you need that template, it would probably be in the templates page, you can find that in my Help Desk under the "Useful links: Troubleshooting, tips & templates" section,

Request for Adminship
It is my regretful task to inform you that I have closed your request for adminship early as unlikely to achieve consensus. Please do not be discouraged; a number of users have had their first RfA end without consensus, but have been promoted overwhelmingly in a later request. Please continue to make outstanding contributions to Wikipedia, and consider requesting adminship again in the future. You may find Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship helpful in deciding when to consider running again. If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to ask. Hey Willy,
I have written in support for you. Well you really do deserve to be an administerator here on WP. One more thing I am starting a new portal on himachal pradesh. Taco Bell etc.
No hay problema. You have to admit that the vandal was at least clever. "There are not enough Taco Bells in North Carolina"? Presumably an ironic comment. Sounds like something *I* would say. The other thing I had reverted was the alleged slogan "It's just made for you!" I don't know for sure if that's a legit slogan or not, but it sounds kind of odd and was posted by an IP address, so I took it to be a prank. If I got that wrong, feel free to correct it. <<¡Me gusta Taco Bell!>> :) Wahkeenah 04:19, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Happy New year!!!
Hi Willy, Well I won't be here for quite short span of time thats why wish you a very happy and a prosperous new year to and your family in advance. One more thing if you don't mind can you update the portals designed by me for Jan. and Feb. The only thing you need to do is to see the topics from the template inserted there on the portal and simply copy some content from there and make some necessary changes and paste it in the edit box. Rest I will see myself after these 2 upcoming months. Thanks a lot for the help you provided to me. Sushant gupta 07:08, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

WP:ADOPT
Hi there,
As a user looking to Adopt with the Adopt-a-User program, there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention, as well as request help with the backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.
You should know that the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking. Once adoption is complete please use the templates found here on the Adoptee's and your user page.
Also numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.
Furthermore a new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you have and if you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.
So I hope you get adopting soon - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 15:21, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
My 'vandalism' on Hinduism

- Okay, thanks. Another thing - vandals often hit more than one article at a time so you should probably follow through their contributions looking for more. Good luck learning that tool. —Wknight94 (talk) 04:49, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
On the Spot reversion
I merged the article On the Spot (webcast) into GameSpot as it was nominated for this since last month. There have been no objections to this since nomination, so I merged it. I blanked On the Spot accidentally. It was automatically reverted by you I belive, but On the Spot needs to be deleted now that it has no use.
When articles are merged, they should be redirected to the target article. I'm not sure why this article was blanked and tagged for speedy deletion - that's not the proper procedure. --- RockMFR 19:37, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Why are you reverting my edits?
Is there some reason why you reverted 10 of my edits today? Bored? Pete K 23:34, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- I posted this to my own talk page but then realized you might not see it.
- Thanks for this. As it happens, you stumbled into the middle (or hopefully the end) of a 6 month long edit war among half a dozen editors not counting sock/meat puppets. Sorry if I sounded touchy.
- So, best Lakers ever - late '60's - Early '70's - Chamberlain, Baylor, West, Hairston, Erickson - or 1985, Jabbar, Magic, Worthy, Scott, Cooper - or would you go with 1999 - Shaq, Kobe, Rice, Harper, Fox, Fisher? Pete K 03:06, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- I've seen all three eras and I have to say the first was the best, for me - but all were great. Pete K 22:52, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Willy..
I've finished editing the Tactical Air Command article. I saw your note from a few days ago and I don't think I edited out any of the information you had written before. However, if there is something that I removed by accident that you included, let me know and I'll put it back in..

Question about VandalProof
I tried your suggestion about how to modify the custom messages file for VandalProof, but when I do that the button does not even give me the template at all, just my signature on the user's talk page. Could you help me with editing this file to where the buttons will work properly? --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 21:09, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- I've looked at the CustomButtons.txt in a bit more detail. For each button the first line identifies the button (<button name>). The second line is the text in VandalProof on the button. The third line is the text to insert into the talk page. The fourth line is the message to place in the edit summary. In your case I would suggest you replace the entire of the second line with something that points to an alternative welcome template. This alternative template can then include the heading/wording laid out exactly as you would like. To give you an example I have changed the rollback buttons so they insert a heading and then the standard warning text. To do this I have amended the entry under CustomButtons.txt to read:
<ROLLBACK 1> RB-1-Experiment {{test1-n}} {{Subst:User:MarkS/Warnings/Test1-n|%P}}
- This forces the program to insert a template from my userpages into the talk when I click the Rollback button 1. In my case the template receives a parameter of the page name which it uses to create the header line. My template then includes the standard Test1-n code. In your case you probably want something like:
<TALK 0> My welcome {{Subst:User:No1lakersfan/Welcome}}
- Then all you have to do is create your Welcome message under under User:No1lakersfan/Welcome. Let me know how you get on. --MarkS (talk) 17:12, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, you undid one vandal edit to this, but the anon made 2 edits and you missed the first one, which you can see still there under the "Biography" heading. Just thought I'd let you know so you can refine your skills. :) Tyrenius 20:17, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- I always check back either by looking at names in the history or clicking through the versions and looking at the text, if I'm not sure. I trust certain people, e.g. using Vandalproof, admin rollback or good edit summaries. It's usually only the most recent editor who's a problem, but occasionally there are two vandals in a row, and sometimes, as in the above case, the vandal hunter hasn't gone back quite far enough. Sometimes the vandal hunter has accidentally reverted back to a vandalised version! Sometimes a good edit has been accidentally reverted, as it looks like vandalism, but is a legitimate entry. Swear words and the ilk can get reverted by a vandal-hunting bot automatically, and obviously sometimes they are appropriate in an article. It's basically down to common sense, and we all make mistakes, so don't be too worried about that.
- It's good to add certain frequently vandalised pages to your watchlist, e.g. Vincent van Gogh. Leave a warning on the talk page of the vandal and also leave a clear edit summary, so if the warning is removed, the summary will be clear in the history. It's usual to go with test1 and then increase by stages, but this is not necessary if you feel there is deliberate knowing vandalism — you can jump to a higher level of warning. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance and keep up the good work. :) Tyrenius 22:18, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Adoption!
I would very much appreciate that, thank you!

Lumbee article
Hi-- Thanks so much for offering to help.
I am brand new to editing in Wikipedia. I made a few minor changes to the References section of the Lumbee article, clicked on Preview (and it only previewed the first change I made). Then I clicked Save, thinking I would then be taken down to the next change and asked to preview it.
It seems that the software deleted everything in the References section below the change I made!
What should I do? This is pretty scary! Glenn Ellen Starr Stilling 15:38, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

RE: How to handle players not qualified for postseason awards
Alright, your question kind of confuses me a little bit, so I'll try to answer your question as best as I can and hopefully I can give you a good answer.
For pitchers, we needn't worry about those. On the articles, we are listing all the pitchers that played a game with the team. For the batters is a different story. After the season, then we might go and add all the players. But for right now 5 days in the season, does it make sense to list a player in the batting stats if they got one AB and grounded out to first? It would just take up space there, as that isn't enough statistics to be considered notable for the team. After the season we may go and put the stats for all players because the season is over. It doesn't make sense to me for us to include a player making one plate appearance for a long time, without playing a game in between his next plate appearance.
In short, don't worry about it right now the 1st week of the season. Just list batters that are eligible for the batting title (3.1 plate appearances per team game), sorted by batting average, and list all starting/relieving pitchers. For listing starting pitchers, if 6 pitchers started or one starter worked out of the bullpen, the 5 pitchers with the most games started will be listed in starting pitchers and all other pitchers will be listed in relief pitchers. Either way, list their season stats, not their stats in games they started or worked in relief.
Does this clarify it up a little bit, or do you still need more answers to your question? --23:16, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Ksy92003
- I see what you mean, but still, 5 days in the season that isn't going to be a problem. When that problem arises, we'll decide then what to do regarding the situation. But as of right now, until there is such a scenario as the one you suggested, don't worry about it. --23:26, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Ksy92003
RE: Numbering of games in game logs
Ironically, I was pondering the same question, as today's doubleheader was also postponed. As of right now, since all of the first 3 games in the series, don't worry about doing anything with it until one of the games is actually made up. If they play the doubleheader tomorrow, then after we add tomorrow's scheduled game, once I can find out from mlb.com, espn.com, or yahoo.com whether the made-up game was Thursday's, Friday's, or today's scheduled game, I'll go into the Indians and Mariners templates and adjust that accordingly. I'll take the liberty of doing that so nobody else has to confuse themselves about how to do it. --15:11, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Ksy92003
- When I heard that Friday's doubleheader was postponed (I was at a Los Angeles Avengers AFL game when I read the score display and saw the postponement), I thought about this. I wasn't sure what I would do about this if they kept on postponing games. I realized I would have to worry about it anyway because the Indians and the Angels play next, and I work on the Angels articles. I knew that I would have to do something about it, and eventually I just decided not to do anything until a game has been played and go on from there. It would be much easier to do that and less confusing. I don't want anybody to have to go change all the numbering though just because of that. We'll just have to wait and see if they get in the doubleheader tomorrow. --15:28, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Ksy92003
