I think the article needs to expand further on WMR's participation in slavery. While it touches briefly on the fact he owned 15 slaves, it only includes this fact as a side note when mentioning his other "property". Additionally, there is no mention of his participation on slave patrols, nor his advertisement calling for the capture of one of his slaves who escaped. I dunno, maybe it's me but I think the image of Mr. Rice looks bizarre. He looks like he's ready to go to a football game.[1]. Could we get a better image? Postoak (talk) 20:46, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lol! (I had a similar reaction.) There are stack of images of him around, but I'm not sure about their copyright status. Why don't you do some investigation and chose a better one? Error in article?

A reader wrote to Wikimedia ticket:2017091610521431 to suggest that the sentence:

Shortly thereafter, a bank teller noticed a suspiciously large check bearing the late Rice's signature and made out to Rice's New York City lawyer, Albert T. Patrick, but with Rice's name misspelled.

is incorrect. It wasn't Rice's named misspelled but Albert T. Patrick. No reference was supplied.

I did find: murderpedia which I assume does not qualify as RL, but it does support the notion that the error was in Albert T. Patrick's name.

This site is a better source. I think it may be enough to make the change but I prefer that editors familiar with the article look into it and make the change if warranted.--S Philbrick(Talk) 16:21, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed that the large photograph on the left side of this page has an image of the checking question and you can see that it was made out to "Abert" not "Albert".

Ambiguity in the name of the Institution.

The side bar, which gives summary of Rice University, in Rice University Wikipedia article shows the name of the institute as 'William M. Rice Institute for the Advancement of Literature, Science and Art.' but the name of the institute in this article shows 'William Marsh Rice Institute for the Advancement of Letters, Science, and Art,' in Legacy section of this article.

Can any one clarifies the correct name of the institute, with supporting reference.
