Thomas Simons[1] (born 9 April 2004),[2] known online as TommyInnit (formerly Channelnutpig), is an English YouTuber and Twitch streamer. He is known for his Minecraft-related streams and videos, most notably his collaborations with YouTubers and streamers in the Dream SMP,[3][4] which caused his YouTube and Twitch channels to rise in popularity.[1][5][6] As of 26 March 2021, his six YouTube channels have collectively reached over 12.7 million subscribers and over 948.88 million views. He is the 20th most-followed channel on Twitch, with over 4.5 million followers on the platform.[7][8]

Simons was born in Nottinghamshire, England on 9 April 2004.[2]

Career

Content format and style

Simons typically uploads videos consisting of him playing Minecraft. He also owns the channels TommyOutit, TommyVODS, tomaye, and TommyCLIPS.

YouTube and Twitch career

Simons created his Channelnutpig channel on 15 February 2013 and his TommyInnit channel on 24 December 2015.[9][10] He uploaded his first video titled "Terraria Episode 1 (First Video Ever)" on 9 October 2015.[11] Simons uploaded his first video on his TommyInnit channel named "Guide to Lobby Spamming" on 9 September 2018.[12] Simons began consistently streaming on Twitch in late 2018, where he streamed PUBG, Fortnite, and Minecraft.[1][5] He has amassed over 4.5 million followers as of March 2021, making him the 20th most-followed channel on the platform.[8]

On 4 July 2020, Simons joined the roleplay-focused Minecraft server Dream SMP,[13][14] run by the eponymous YouTuber Dream,[15] which quickly caused his TommyInnit channel to gain traction. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his channel gained more traction, quickly increasing his subscriber count from 100,000 to 1 million by September 2020.[16][original research]

On 20 January 2021, Simons livestreamed the finale of the Dream SMP, titled "The Dream SMP Finale",[17] which peaked at over 650,000 viewers making it the third-highest all-time concurrent viewer stream on Twitch, overtaking Ninja's Fortnite collaboration with Drake.[18][19][20]

In early March 2021, Simons made an announcement that he may quit livestreaming and fully transition to YouTube. However, on 27 March 2021, Simons announced that he would resume streaming.[21][22][23]
