Jessica Zi Jia Guo (born 23 June 2005)[1] is a left-handed foil fencer. In 2019, Jessica won the silver medal in the women's foil event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru.[2][3][4] In the final, she lost against Lee Kiefer, also a fencer, but right-handed.[4][5]
Her sister Zi Shan Guo has represented Canada team in Epee fencing, a different type of fencing from Jessica Zi Jia Guo.[6] Jessica Guo learns foil at Hua Hua Fencing Club in Markham, a suburb north of Toronto.[7] Jessica Guo's fencing teacher is Jin Ko, a Korean fencing teacher who has also taught in China. [8] Jessica Guo is unusually short for fencing, [9] with the lowest average height being at 1.77 metres, [10] but with Jessica Guo being only 1.64 meters. Despite her height, practicing fencing for almost a decade, [11] she has seen improvement and considerable achievement in foil fencing, [12] learning with Mr Jin Ko.
