Pratishtha Raut (Nepali: प्रतिष्ठा राउत) (born March 19, 1993) also widely known as Trish is a Beauty Pageant title holder who won the title Miss England 2019/20 2nd Runner Up which makes her the first British-Nepali origin beauty queen to hold the highest title among the Nepalese Community in United Kingdom.[1]

Early life and Family Background

Raut was born in Kowloon, Hongkong raised in England and of a Nepali origin. She is a daughter of ex-Royal Gurkha Rifles Prakash Raut and Mina Raut. Her father, Prakash Raut is a retired 10 Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment RLC army. She has an older brother Dr. Pramin Raut who graduated in Medicine from University of Cambridge, currently a Royal Air Force working as a Medical Doctor in Department of Orthopaedics at Frimley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.[2] She spent majority of her life traveling between countries and cities which meant she never studied in the same school for over 3 years.

Personal Life

Pratishtha started modelling at the age of 16 as a hobby but chose to focus on her studies more. Due to her moving different countries and cities, Pratishtha can speak 3 language fluently - English, Nepali and Hindi making her trilingual.[3]

Pageantry

Miss England 2019/20 was her first pageant she entered in with the intention of having a platform for raising awareness of Mental Health.[4] The beauty was the crowd's favourite since the beginning of the pageant and she proved her worth as she competed in the finale with pride and zest, giving an outstanding performance in every round on the basis of which an accomplished panel of the jury handed over the title of ‘Beauty With A Purpose’. She won the titles Beauty With a Purpose, Miss Public's Choice[5] and Miss Charity Queen in which she raised over astonishing £10,000 for varies charities by holding a charity dinner attended by 300 guests which made her the top fundraiser.[6] At the end of the night she bagged herself as Miss England 2019/20 2nd Runner Up in the competition at The Newbridge Hotel on 1st August 2019 Finale night.[7]

Raut was also a finalist at Miss Universe Great Britain 2020 but decided to withdraw from the competition due to the pandemic.[8]

Mental Health

Raut is a strong advocate for mental health specially when there is such a social stigma about this issue, that people don't talk enough about. She mentions in one of her interviews that "There is a lot to take in as an immigrant because of clash in culture and crisis in identity but the support system for this seems to be lacking in our community. This needs to change and change fast because it will not only ruin lives of old and young but also create social instability for immigrants in the UK."[9]

She managed to raise over £10,000 for charities within 4 months where one is papyrus charity who focus on prevention of suicide.[10]
