Asteroid City is an upcoming American romantic comedy-drama film written, directed, and co-produced by Wes Anderson. The cast has been described as being "larger than most other Anderson films that are ensemble in nature."[1]

Production

In September 2020, it was revealed Wes Anderson would be writing and directing a romance film, which he would produce alongside Jeremy Dawson and Steven Rales for American Empirical Pictures and Indian Paintbrush.[2][3] By February 2021, Michael Cera and Jeff Goldblum entered negotiations to star in the film, which was now described as being about a "group of brainy teenagers."[4] In June 2021, Tilda Swinton was the first person to be officially cast,[5] with Bill Murray,[6] Adrien Brody,[7] and Tom Hanks joining in July.[8] In August, Margot Robbie,[9] Rupert Friend, Jason Schwartzman,[1] Scarlett Johansson,[10] Bryan Cranston, Hope Davis, Jeffrey Wright, and Liev Schreiber were announced as part of the ensemble.[11] Soon after, Tony Revolori and Matt Dillon were confirmed as cast members in September;[12][13] Goldblum, Sophia Lillis, Steve Park, and Maya Hawke were confirmed in October;[14][15][16] and Fisher Stevens and Jake Ryan were confirmed in November.[17][18]

Filming was originally going to take place in Rome. Instead, principal photography took place in Spain between August and October 2021.[9][19] Several sets in Chinchón, Madrid, resembling a desert landscape and a mock train station, were used for the shoot.[20] At the BFI London Film Festival, the film's title was revealed to be Asteroid City.[21]

The story line revolves around a team of a film and television company of make-up artists and hair dressers named Asteroid City.
