Orphaned non-free image (File:MarapetsHomepageJuly2009.jpg)

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:MarapetsHomepageJuly2009.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 13:39, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:MaradanChroniclesLogo.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:MaradanChroniclesLogo.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 13:12, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Maradan Chronicles logo is my own work, with images from the Marapets website. The newspaper contained in the middle was entirely made by me. The board squares are a collage of miniature versions of images found in the Marapets website, the presentation was my idea. With that in mind I could label it as "own work" but I am not sure if that's the best way to put it. --Molokaicreeper (talk) 06:47, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(thanks for pinging my talk page). I've withdrawn the nomination. But are the "miniature versions of images found in the Marapets website" also created by you? (I'm now watching this page, so I'll see any response here). –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 13:34, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, the small squares were not created by me. They are the work of the Marapets site artist (Laimay). I basically put those together in a square image, but the newspaper and feather are mine. Can I link to the same image in my wiki rather than use the image here? I messaged Ian the owner of Marapets in a couple of occasions and he's aware of the wiki using Marapets images in fan-related work. I am not sure if fair-use would be the best way to label them, but I don't mind if it needs to be removed. For the record though I did follow rules from the Marapets site to the letter:
Marapets images may be used and altered freely within the Marapets network sites (marapets.com, marasites.com etc). If you wish to use marapets images on another website then you must include a copyright notice such as 'Copyright 2004-2007 Marapets.com All Rights Reserved. Used With Permission'
Found on this page: http://www.marapets.com/rules.php
As you can see from the file summary I did as I was told on the page. I'm not sure what else needs to be done, but like I mentioned above, if possible I'd use my own domain to show the image here, and I also wouldn't mind removing it (if necessary). --Molokaicreeper (talk) 05:09, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, since the image is only being used on your user page, I'd recommend deleting it just because it seems like an all-around sticky licensing situation due to the number of image sources. Having said that, I'll look into it and see if I can come up with a valid license tag. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 23:40, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've started a discussion about the file at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files/2011 July 9#File:MaradanChroniclesLogo.png, so hopefully a few more people can discuss it and comment with their opinions on its licensing status. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 23:50, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for adding your user box on this page and for your edit summary looking for feedback on it. The user boxes project is pretty casual about where these go and this page in particular is a bit of a catch-all for any user box that is even slightly humourous, so I don't see any problem with keeping it there! - Ahunt (talk) 12:55, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note. Hopefully others will pick that user box up and use it! I find with the ones I have made every now and then it is fun to check the transclusions and see how many people have used it. - Ahunt (talk) 14:37, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Jolt Online Gaming, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page MAU (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
