Tides (also known as The Colony) is a 2021 English-language German-Swiss science fiction thriller film directed and written by Tim Fehlbaum. The film stars Nora Arnezeder, Iain Glen, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, and Joel Basman.[1]

The film had its worldwide premiere at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival.[2]

Plot

In the not too-distant future, after a global catastrophe has wiped out nearly all of humanity on Earth, Blake, an elite astronaut from Space Colony Kepler-209, must make a decision that will seal the fate of the people on both planets.[3]

The film deals with themes such as colonialism and eugenics.

On February 11, 2021, Berlinale announced that the film would have its worldwide premiere at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival in the Berlinale Special section.[5] The film was made available on Netflix in the US on January 11, 2022.[6]

Critical response

Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a 43% approval rating based on 21 reviews, with an average rating of 5.4/10.[7] On Metacritic, the film has a score of 48 out of 100, based on 5 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews."[8]
