>> Wikiquote: see change

Change denotes the transition that occurs between one state to another.

Physical

[edit]

Ovid produced a classic thematic handling of change as metamorphosis in his Metamorphoses.

Ptolemaic astronomy envisioned a largely static universe, with erratic change confined to less worthy spheres.

Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz harnessed mathematical concepts into calculus to provide mathematical models of change. This constituted a major step forward in understanding flux and variation. In modern physics, the concept of change is associated with action.

Social

[edit]

, Non Violent revolution

Medieval thought fostered great respect for authority and revelation, severely cramping any encouragement of change.

With the rise of industrialisation and capitalism, the importance attached to innovation grew, and social and political upheaval. Change is random, lacking determinism or teleology.

Change may require organisms and organizations to adapt (see also evolution).

Changes in society have been observed through slow, gradual modifications in mindsets and beliefs as well as through dramatic action (see revolutions). History is one of the tools used to document change.

climate change culture & complexity

[edit]

Since the emergence of the Anthropocene social change and change of the human environment is the same. World Society and the developments on the Earth are the same, they are only different aspects of the same phenomenon. However, a thick description of this phenomenon is difficult, because of the Tristram Shandy Paradox. While you writing your own biography, or in this context the Biography of the earth, the World Society is moving on, in big steps. Fortuneately no single Institution is capable to change that. The complexity involved is too big. Therefore only complex networks are capable to address the necessary change. One possibility to conceptualize this complexity for the natural world is the Attribution of recent climate change, which compares a state without interference into the climate with a the climate interference of humans after the Industrial Revolution. For these kind of attributions local data is needed and has to be compared globally. One example of a thick description of local climate would be the work of the Wegner.net at the Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change, which is analyzing local climate in Austria.

Identity Politics

[edit]

Relating Politics to Identities was a gradual process, which was mend to be liberating. Complex societies are able to create strata of different identities, which alleged dominating classes at the "top" of the society. Bringing in the voices of previous unheard groups was liberating and created a liberating experience, for different groups and persons, of course racial privileges among them. Making these privileges more conscious is a liberating experience (Ref.). However, in the long run, these perceiving identities differences only, results in lesser solidarity among the social groups, making them unfit to approach great common goals, as the history of Privilege Walk. Corp 2020 (book)

[edit]

Pavan Sukhdev is author of the book "Corporation 2020", Transforming Business for Tomorows world, Island Press (296 pages)[1]

content

[edit]

The book claims, that the corporations in economic environment are behaving merly egoistic and ignoring the situation beyond their instituion. The film and book the corporation shows this in a thick description. Pavan Sukhdev calls this egoistic coporation "coporation 1920" . One decsive landmark in the development of the Corporation 1920 is the case Dodge v. Ford Motor Company at Michigan Supreme Court 1919, which definied the major purpose of a corporation in making money for the shareholders. It is therefore an useful strategy for the coporation to externalize their costs as much as possible and invest only for the benefit of the shareholders. The strategies for successful "coporations 1920" are[2]:

The book argues for a change in business culture and calls this new modell corporation 2020. Four major objectives are important for the Corporation 2020:

  • Goals are closely aligned with those of society
  • An understanding of the corporation's role as community
  • A commitment to developing the corporation as an institute of learning
  • A vision of the corporation as a capital factory

The first three arguments are apparently different from the (egoistic) "Coporation 1920", but the last seems not be new. But the concept of capital in Corporation 2020 is an expanded concept of capital, that also include, social, cultural, natural or human capital. From a "brown economy" to sustainable green economy

movement: Corp 2020
