Message about Pierre Gemayel Jr.

Hello Daysleeper, Thank you for the remark and the advice. I will do that next time. My problem was that the name of the article was not correct (because he is actually Pierre Gemayel Grandson, not son). But next time I will just move. Thank you.Themalau 15:46, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Fire Service Volunteer reporting for duty

Hi, I saw your post, because I recently changed the categories of a lot of fire related items so they were on my watch list. I don't know that much about real Fire appliances, but I'm a little obsessed, in that I have about 400+ diecast firetrucks and amnbulances. This week I don't have much time, but I need a break from real work, so maybe next week I'll talk more. I have some ideas about changing the category structures that I wanted to talk to someone about, so I'm glad you appeared. --ArmadilloFromHell 21:34, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

John Carroll Userbox

Would you mind if I made it into a template so that the public would be able to use it, in case there are other JCU students who would like to use the userbox? As it is right now I can't put it in the US Education userbox category. --Wizardman 21:11, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Fire Project

Hi. On UK Wiki articles about UK fire and rescue services, it would be better if the first Wikilink is to the umbrella article Fire service in the United Kingdom. This is more suitable than the generic fire article that's more relevant to the US. I started the above to provide a comprehensive overview. There are only a few individual UK FRS pages - I think I've re-written most of them so they all start along the lines of "statutory fire and rescue service" so it makes more sense to link to the UK wide article - in turn that has links to every UK FRS (and its website), even though many are dead. I hope that eventually more editors will add to the handful of UK articles. Hope that makes sense. Escaper7 05:56, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Me again just going through some of the fire articles, as per my comments above, the generic term used in legislation in the UK is "statutory fire and rescue service" or FRS. The FRS is the operational bit - the fire and rescue authority is the governing bit at local/regional level. So excuse me for changing the LFB article back to the correct. I think it's better to keep the FRS reference in first as this is factually correct. The LFB is not the "statutory fire fighting and rescue service... it doesn't just fight fires, it prevents them, educates people about them and so on. Apologies for banging on, but if there's going to be a project it must be consistent and accurate - do ask me because the situation in the UK is much different from the US. Regards, sorry for long msg. Escaper7 07:45, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

About the FDNY article

Sorry I deleted that previous entry but I was under the impression it was vandalism of some sort. Just wanted you to know that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ishikawa Minoru (talkcontribs) 21:16, 8 December 2006 (UTC).

I just removed that from Toronto City Centre Airport Emergency Response Services and then noticed you recently edited it, maybe it shouod be there, but it seems to have been added by 74.12.104.210 (talk · contribs) who made a lot of very weird changes to fire articles including adding what appear to be spurious links to Buffalo Fire Department and Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services --ArmadilloFromHellGateBridge 01:16, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service

Hi Daysleeper. Good work with the project, eds are getting involved and things are happening. I've spent ages trying to Wikify Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, would you be able to have a look at it, to help bring it up to standard please? It has problems with style language and tone and lots of my edits are being reverted - check the history if you've time. All the best Escaper7 20:22, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. a lot of work on this has been undone, I have to leave it now. Regards. Escaper7 20:40, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

TWFRS article

Hi, I am the creater of the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service Article and I would just like to say thanks for your edits, and I was wrong about the capitalisation of some words but thanks yourself and Escaper7 they will be corrected shortly. Thanks: Merry Christams and a Happy New Year.Tellyaddict 14:34, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome message! Like I said on the project page, I'm more interested in individual events than in the service as a whole, so that's where I'm going to focus my efforts. I also intend to try to sort out the lack of missing articles on such incidents, starting early in January (although I'll mainly be working on aviatin accidents, I'm going to try and track down articles on fires and the like as well). I'm willing to try to fix any article once, so if anything comes along, give me a shout! Blood red sandman 15:22, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

YoungstownWikiProject

Daysleeper, Thanks for the kind words--and for correcting at least one potentially embarrassing typo on the list of sports personalities. By the way, after the holidays, I'm planning to incorporate as many citations as possible into the Youngstown, Ohio, main article. This may be a worthwhile project for other editors as well, given that unsourced statements are a common complaint. Thanks, again, and have a great holiday! haeksang 05:59, 16 December 2006 (UTC) (Twelsht)

Hi there, Thanks for reverting the edits by that IP address a little while back, I have left a note on the Wikipedia requests for Investigation Page and hopefully they will be blocked shortly. Anyway thanks for reverting their edits and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

YoungstownWikiProject

Hi, Daysleeper, Yes, that's my IP address. (Thanks for asking.) This message is to let you know that I added a "Business and Industry" headline to the "Famous Youngstowners" article. (This seemed important, given the area's former status as a center of steel production.) Right now, there are just three names included in this category: Edward J. DeBartolo Sr., Harry Burt (Good Humor), and Forrest and Leroy Raffel (Arby's). In the end, I think it will be more substantial than the "Politics" category.

One advantage of the "Famous Youngstowners" article is that it's a magnet for material that could be incorporated into the main article. Sure, a few pieces read like autobiographies, and some contributors appear to view Warren as a subsidiary of Youngstown. Still, there's a surprising amount of stuff that could be used to fill holes in the main narrative. I'll get on this (and the additional citations) some time after the holidays. For now, have a great New Year! haeksang 05:01, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

RE: CapitolShooting

That's excellent Daysleeper! Exactly what the AfD nominators had in mind I think. As long as you make sure to merge the other articles in with this one, it should be great! Very impressed, it's hard to take the AfD of an article you wrote, particularly about a fallen officer when other users point out that wikipedia is not a memorial, as with the law enforcement officers that can strike an unfortunate chord, however you have handled it better than other cases I have seen. Girls in the Fire Service

Long Island got on CNN yesterday because of those teens beating up a young girl. That made me think about the story I am writing about three girls joining the FD for community services. Good character education in there. I'm not sure where to add in some of the knowledge I have about the fire service in the web page you maintain about FD. I posted one thing though. Can you clue me in on some better places I could contribute to .... Here's what I am working on: The Firefighter Story.... comment from User:MindyBlock

Thanks.

Good article: capitol shooting

Is there anywhere you can procure yourself a free/USGov/fairuse image of the shooter? We've got 3 images, but not one of the subject of the article. Good work, by the way. yandman 19:59, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

House Budget Committee - items exluded from the budget

If the intent was to talk about the President's budget request, that's one thing. But the sentence referred to the budget as a whole by saying some programs were exempt. That is inaccurate. While the President has so far excluded the costs of the war in Iraq from his annual budget request, he does submit supplemental budgets to Congress to finance those items. Those are supplemenatary to, and therefore amend, the original budget. The President's budget request is entirely different from the federal budget itself. The costs of the war in Iraq are part of the federal budget whether or not the President includes them in his budget request. Once Congress appropriates the money, it is part of the federal budget.

If the intent of the sentence was to talk about the President's budget request, that's one thing. But the way it was worded made it inaccurate. The President can leave whatever he wants out of this budget request, but to say those programs are "exempt" is false. Nothing is exempt from the federal budget. It just depends on whether the request was made in the original budget or through an emergency supplemental. Either way, it's in the budget. (Emergency supplementals don't fall under federal budgetary caps or pay as you go restrictions, but that's a story more suitable for the article on the the federal budget process.)

How about this for a suggested rewrite:

The committee holds hearings on the President's annual budget request to Congress and drafts the annual Congressional Budget Resolution, which is used to guide congress as it develops annual federal spending bills. The committee also reviews supplemental budget requests submitted by the President, which cover items which for one reason or another were not included in the original budget request, usually for emergency spending. Recent emergency budget supplementals have been used to finance the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as for disaster revovery after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The committee may amend, approve, or table budget-related bills. It also has the power to enforce established federal budget rules, hold budget-related investigations, and subpoena witnesses. Additionally, the committee has oversight of the Congressional Budget Office.

Just a tip

"Moving" articles, instead of creating new ones with the same content and then redirecting the old ones will preserve the edit history. --Czj 21:18, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Sandbox pages

Hi there. I just wanted to give you a heads up about cleaning your sandbox when you're done. Your User:Daysleeper47/CapitolShooting page appears on several category lists (even though it is sandbox page and not actually an article) because you left all the links live. Usually when I'm sandboxing it, I nowiki the whole article so it doesn't appear on categories and "what links here" pages, and just use the preview function to see what the posted article might look like. Just a reminder. Ford MF 15:41, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, could you please tell me what the error was with the ref list because I have had this problem on one other occasion and I just need to know what makes it go wrong so I know for future reference. Cheers!! --Tellyaddict 18:10, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

  • WOW!! It looks really good, thanks for putting me as the Deputy chief of UK operations, I'm so pleased. It really looks good,. Also is Escaper7 a deputy or anything??? Thanks so much for putting me as the position of deputy.Tellyaddict 18:22, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Hi, I've just thought, maybe we should create some templates which members can put on there user page saying that they are a member and Deputy chief of operations or Deputy chief of UK operations; what do you think??? I'll have to go but I'll be back on in a few hrs to receive your reply!! Cheers Tellyaddict 18:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, about them templates for deputy chiefs etc, well I've designed these (but havent yet made them available and haven't created template pages for them) and I'm wondering if you think they are suitable for use:

Peer review This user is a Deputy Chief of United Kingdom Operations of WikiProject Fire Service, a WikiProject which aims to expand coverage of the Fire Service on Wikipedia. Please feel free to join us.

secondly:

Peer review This user is a Deputy Chief of Operations of WikiProject Fire Service, a WikiProject which aims to expand coverage of the Fire Service on Wikipedia. Please feel free to join us.

and thirdly:

Peer review This user is the Chief of WikiProject Fire Service, a WikiProject which aims to expand coverage of the Fire Service on Wikipedia. Please feel free to join us.

Although the new logo for wikiproject fire service does not have to be used on these possible future templates, if users think this new picture is better or that the older picture was better then they could discuss it, anyway though what do you think these and if your satisfied then I can create a proper page for them and begin make the able for use for deputies etc. Please reply on my talk page. Cheers. //Tellyaddict 21:01, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

  • There great, I'll create some pages for them so we can get a proper code from them and then use them on our user page.
  • I'e created the templates now, if your a UK deputy you would put:

{{FireServiceWikiProject-UKdeputy}}

If your a regular deputy you would put:

{{FireServiceWikiProject-Deputy))

and the chief:

{{FireServiceWikiProject-Chief}}

Re: WP:Fire Service Image

I don't know of any way to display a commons image when a en:wiki image exists with the same name. I was just trying to do it and couldn't get it to work. I see you replaced your image with Bobanny's picture. This will make its deletion faster. If an image on English Wikipedia is the same as an image on commons, the image on English Wikipedia can be deleted using this tag - {{subst:ncd}}. Jecowa 22:15, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Somerset Fire and Rescue Service

I noticed you tagged Somerset Fire and Rescue Service as a start article of Wikipedia:WikiProject Fire Service, but this will change it's name as it merges with another service (Devon) in April 2007 - so it doesn't seem to be worth doing much work on it in the meantime.— Rod talk 20:16, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Fire project

Hi there, I really appreciate your enthusiasm for the above and it's obvious that you have professional experience in this field which is a big asset for the project... however I'm not a big fan of the rank structure or hierarchy imposed by you for the project. Having served as a full-time professional firefighter and officer in the LFB, and now writing for a living on UK fire service/emergency matters, I don't think having a title is suitable for me in this sense. Please would you remove it, and/or my name. I'm happy to contribute to the project but I find the title a little patronising and although I prefer to underplay my experience, suffice it to say it is vast in the emergency service world in the UK (and US to an extent) - I now work for a major UK broadcaster, but as I say on my user page - I'm about editing properly sourced facts and starting new articles in this field (from time-to-time). I hope that's ok with you we all approach Wikipedia in different ways. What pleases me is the number of new UK individual FRS articles that have been created - but like everyone here, I only have so much time to give. Regards. Escaper7 17:30, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
