RFA

Hi, just wanted to thank you for voting on my RFA, which went through with a count of (58/0/1), far better than I'd expected. I intend to take things slowly and start using the extra abilities gradually, but if there's anything I can do just leave a message. Cheers, CTOAGN (talk) 13:54, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Caction Script

It's actually very useful! I've got it in my JS right now... smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 21:02, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the script. Very good idea to save a few clicks. --TantalumTelluride 04:44, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: My name

Thanks for the compliment about my age! You'll find a lot of people here on-wiki are teenage but most of them are very mature, like I hope I am :). Anyway, the three Wikipedians that know my real name are User:JoanneB, user:Wiki alf and User:FireFox - why do you wish to know? --Celestianpower háblame 21:03, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Heh - I'd trust them with any details they wanted about me - been talking to them daily for months ;). --Celestianpower háblame 21:09, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IP blocks

Personally, I think "confirmed" users like yourself should be immune to blocks based on IP. It's getting to be more and more of a problem. Unfortunately I didn't read your message until now and it's already too late in your time zone, so perhaps I'll just let the IP block expire on its own. -- Curps 23:12, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

Thank you
Hello haz, and thank you for your support in my request for adminship! It passed with a final count of 63/4/3. I am honoured by the community support and pledge to serve the project as best as I can. CanadianCaesar The Republic Restored 17:08, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another Esperanzial note...

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been amended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Thanks

Thanks for supporting my RfA. It was successful and I hope to be a good administrator. Essexmutant 11:47, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

File:Plunger 250x410.jpg

Thanks for taking the time to vote in my RfA, which passed with a final vote of 54/2/1 despite my obvious inadequacy for the job. I'll do my level best to use the mop and bucket — or, as I said in my RfA, plunger — responsibly. Of course, in the best tradition of politicans everywhere, I've already broken a campaign promise (I blocked a vandal last night despite having said "I don't anticipate using the blocking tool very often"). Nevertheless, I'll try not to let the unbridled power corrupt me. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 14:56, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page award

Congratulations, Haza-w! Your user page has been nominated for the Esperanza User Page Award! Five judges will look over your user page and award it 1-10 points in four categories:

  • Attractiveness: general layout, considering colour scheme and/or use of tables if applicable
  • Usefulness: links to subpages or editing aids, helpful information
  • Interesting-ness: quirky, unique, captivating, or funny content
  • General niceness: at the judges' discretion

But first, you must be chosen as a finalist. If your user page is chosen as one of the five finalists, you'll have the chance to win an award created just for having a great user page!

More information can be found on this page.

Re: Esperanza Mail

Well blame User:Celestianpower for the spelling - he wrote it, I just delivered it (on two sides of a 3 hour database lock) :) Well obviously the judge who was judging you thought your userpage was the best out of three - it's personal opinion. A userpage that catches your eye, not too blarey, not overflowing with jumbled-up information makes a good userpage in my opinion. FireFoxT • 20:44, 19 February 2006

Thank You!

Hi there Haza-w: I just wish to thank you for your vote of confidence on the Esperanza elections. While I realize that your vote actually isn't a vote, due to the election staff commitments, I do appreciate your support. This is heightened by the fact that I don't think we've interacted here much on the project. So hello! thank you! and am looking forward to working together. Re: transclusionism

I've just removed myself from that category because I don't think it really applies to me... personally, I believe that:

  • Templates can be useful
  • Overuse of templates can be harmful
  • Meta-templates can be very harmful
  • Substitution is preferred in most (but not all) cases

So, if you want to create such an association, go for it - meta isn't Wikipedia - but I'm not sure how much support you'll get. Regards, Alphax τεχ 14:01, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UPA

I'm still waiting for IAMTHEEGGMAN's results. I left him a message in his talk page reminding him he needs to send me his results, but hasn't done so yet :-( -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 14:10, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Signature

Yep; when the code is typed in, the system automatically adds 'Subst:' to the start of the signature. That's why signatures that have already been added don't keep changing, and means that only the code for that day is shown. smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 14:37, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup Taskforce

I put 4 articles on your desk. These are for your consideration because you listed a wide range of interests. Some of these are quite old and may just need to be closed. Some are quite hard and the first thing is to figure out where to start. If you don't want any (or all) of them then just pass them on (or let me know and I'll do it).

  • Young & Rubicam this is a business article that needs cleanup. (All members who listed an interest in business appear to be inactive).
  • John III of Portugal This is a straight forward historical biography. I don't know the status, it may be done by now.
  • Greek etymologies This is cleanup work. This is a bunch of contributions that need ability in Greek. The status of the entries by now is unknown, they may have had them removed by now.
  • Algebraic syntax This one is a problem because we basically need an expert. If you know about linguistics take a look. Or just look at it for style and value. ...I think I'll go and look at it again and see if should just be AFDed. Let me know if you have an opinion on this one.

Thank you for joining the taskforce. I hope all this work doesn't scare you off. I'm just trying to get rid of some of the old entries. If you don't want to work on any of them, again, just pass them. RJFJR 17:13, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Algebraic syntax is probably in need of AfD or is at least a page needing attention. haz (user talk)e 18:23, 23 February 2006
What do you think of this idea: Leave the first paragraph but remove the following paragraphs on the details (to the talk page). Trying to give the details beyond its existence could be going beyond the sacope of an encyclopedia. RJFJR 14:39, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Erm... I wonder why...--IAMTHEEGGMAN (talk) 21:31, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup Taskforce

When you assign an article to someone's desk you need to check that they are still an active wikipedian. (Go up one level from their desk and click user contributions to see if they are still active). The member interest chart is out of date on who is inactive, though I mark them inactive when I find someone inactive that I was thinking of giving an article to. I need to see if I can find a faster way of checking everyone for activity. Thank you very much for helping with getting articles assigned. RJFJR 15:11, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza elections

Thank you very much for voting in the recent Esperanza elections. However, you signed up for Esperanza after the election began, and in accordance with the election rules, your votes were discounted. Thanks anyway. haz (user talk)e 19:42, 27 February 2006

I joined Esperanza on 18 February 2006 at 01:07. Elections began on 20 February 2006 at 12:00, so I joined before the elections began. --M@thwiz2020 19:48, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry again, but the rules on voting say that members registered before Feb 13 were unable to vote. I only just found that out myself. Sorry... :-( haz (user talk)e 19:53, 27 February 2006
First of all, the only reason why I am pursuing this issue is because, without my vote, Karmafist will not win. Between the wheel war, his desysopping, and his failed RfA (well, it hasn't ended but it will fail), I don't want to be the reason he didn't win this, too.
Anyways, at the time of my vote, the voting page stated only these rules:
  1. Elections staff can't vote.
  2. Those who were not a member of Esperanza before the 20th, can't vote
  3. Those running for a position can vote.
  4. Those currently on the Advisory Council can vote
Beneath that, it said:
This is the voting page for Esperanza's Febrary 2006 elections for two seats on the Advisory Council. You must be listed as a member of Esperanza in order to vote. The voting method is approval voting; you may support as many candidates as you wish. Voting began at 12:00 UTC on February 20th and will end at 11:59 UTC on February 27th. Any votes cast outside these dates will be discarded.
That's all the rules it stated. It did not refer voters to Wikipedia:Esperanza/February_2006_elections, which stated the Feb 13 rule. Instead, the voting page said you had to be a member as of the 20th. Since the voting page failed to inform voters of the correct requirements, I think the requirements as stated on the voting page (or any pages linked to by that page) should be followed, and those alone. Even you said you didn't know of the requirement until recently. How am I supposed to follow a rule that not even the "experienced" election staff know? (I can just hear your response: It's a new rule. But then we go to the grandfather-rule issue: I only have to follow the rules as they were written when my alleged infraction of them occurred.)
If you disagree with anything I said, please just let me know. (The reason for the delay is that Wikipedia is a bit slow for me today and was down for 10 minutes, I don't why since no one else is experiencing this.) --M@thwiz2020 20:48, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

about my "non notable" contributions

My recent items are my attempt to expand to the Invercargill article. I will be in the process of adding catagories later, but I have work now.

I dont see why you can consider something like this to be useless, I am sure theres lots of articles that are not useful to anyone in particular, but mine ARE of use, my marae article will be added to the list of maraes in the world for instance.

I thought this was a free encyclopedia, which anyone could create helpful new additions?

All the best Haza,

Please dont discourage my articles, they are just as important as any others on Wiki.

Thank you for the barnstar. Sorry it took me so long to say it. RJFJR 21:01, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your advice

Thanks for the advice, yes I had taken most of that already, but I am trying to improve.

I am having a heck of a time with my St Josephs School article, with the alignment of my photos.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Josephs

I hope you still dont consider my articles as trash.

I know for a fact that they have helped another person already, I have been emailing Steve Wozniak, co creator of Apple computer, and told him about my city, Invercargill. He asked some questions about the temperature, which I added to the page. Thats what got me in the mood to add more information and detail about Invercargill. I will work on getting it into a new catagory, once I find out how!

But thankyou for your criticisms

RfA thanks

Thank you for voting on my RfA, it passed with a final tally of 68/0/0 so I'm now an administrator. If there's anything I can do to help, you feel I've done something wrong, or there's just something you want to tell, don't hesitate to use my talk page. Thanks. - Bobet 10:42, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Galscarr

It's weird, but since xe hasn't committed any vandalism, I'd just keep an eye on xem. Mind you, that template says that xe's been blocked, when the block log contains no mention of a Galscarr. I might as well welcome xem though... smurrayinchester(User), (Talk) 15:11, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
