XLinkBot Editorial Question

[edit]

{{helpme}} I'm new to Wikipedia, and don't understand why all of the edits I recently made to the Tyler Turkle page were undone by the XLinkBot. My guess is that some kind of flag is set against YouTube links (though I believe the link I added was legit and useful). Even if it wasn't considered appropriate, why were ALL of my other text edits removed? And has my account been given some kind of "bad grade"? I'm hoping to achieve access to upload photos, and I'm a little tentative to try any more edits. --Mycotn (talk) 09:20, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really know much about bots but it looks like the bot is set to revert all of the edits by a certain user if it dislikes one of them. Presumably this feature is there to remove vandalism by persistent users. I had a look at your edits on Tyler Turkle and apart from adding the YouTube link, which incidentally is not allowed, the rest of your edits seemed quite constructive. Please don't feel timid about editing Wikipedia be bold and refrain from adding YouTube links and everything will be fine. Your account has not been given a "bad grade" Wikipedia does issue warnings to vandals but never does so secretly - you will always be informed of your standing in the community, generally users will assume good faith. I hope that is of some help to you, if you need any more assistance feel free to message me on my talk page. --Noosentaal·talk· 11:43, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Tyler Turkle has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): \byoutube\.com (links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zwcpv0qtrk). If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy and therefore probably should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file. Video links are also strongly deprecated by our guidelines for external links, partly because they're useless to people with slow internet connections.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 11:53, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your message, the problem is that you only have one source that focuses on the film itself, and that's not enough. You need more independent sources that focus on the film itself. I'm sure there's other sources out there that do, and if you find them, put them in your article. The other documentary film articles didn't go through the Articles for Creation process, and thus, can go by without reliable sources. Lugia2453 (talk) 15:28, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
