no data later than 2011?
Wonder why ...
- Article seems to be updated up to 2019 references in the first few paragraphs, but needs more - including plans/projections for future nuclear plants. To reach carbon-neutral goals, it seems to me that WP articles on nuclear power (US and worldwide) needs to be engaged further and updated more regularly. --2600:6C48:7006:200:B056:6066:1296:EF0B (talk) 01:11, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
No new plants in the US built since 1978.
Just asking for someone to verify and update this. 1978-2022 is a LONG time since any new nuclear power sources have been developed into the US. Yes I lived thru 3-mile Island as did everyone. Chernobyl was MUCH worse. Ukraine still operates many nuclear plants, despite the current war (2022) with Russia. Despite long-standing news on "climate change", why hasn't the US. done something positive along this line? 2600:6C48:7006:200:B056:6066:1296:EF0B (talk) 01:33, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
What Investment?
Article states "In April 2022, the Federal government announced a $6 billion SUBSIDY program targeting the seven plants scheduled for closure as well as others at-risk of closure, to attempt to ENCOURAGE them to continue operating.[132] It will be funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act" passed in November 2021.[132]"
What kind of investment is that? $6B could build two NEW nuclear plants without any subsidy. We need more new nuke plants if there is any "carbon-neutral" future. It might we money to keep current plants alive. or just probably pay for the cost of decommissioning. The article clearly states that there have not been any NEW plants built and operational since 1978. What bias. 2600:6C48:7006:200:B056:6066:1296:EF0B (talk) 03:01, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
Latest NRC Map
There's a 2019 map of nuke plants in the USA: https://www.nrc.gov/images/reading-rm/doc-collections/maps/power-reactors-operating.png SOURCE: NRC
- Map has four color codes for each plant, but no reference on what the colors mean within the image. I know at least one plant in MI on the coast of Lk. MI is in the process of decommissioning. I'd like to see a map also indicating those "under construction". 2600:6C48:7006:200:B056:6066:1296:EF0B (talk) 01:14, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
Add states to the table of plants?
I think there should be a state column in the table of plants on this article, so it is easier to find them geographically. NRC Regions would work as well, but those are a little too technical. Also, people have different definitions of what the "midwest" is, perhaps different than the NRC, making it difficult to find plants by NRC region.
As a side note, this table isn't listed in the "Lists of nuclear power stations" box at the bottom of this article, which also has bad View/Talk/Edit links. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_nuclear_power_stations WPL_XB70 (talk) 15:30, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, the list is transcluded from List of commercial nuclear reactors#United States. There is no state column to keep the table consistent with the rest of the article. --Ita140188 (talk) 14:18, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
- Also lacking, I think a table showing providing an indexed commissioning date (actual or projected) and also a decommissioning date (also actual or projected) would be important to add to this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C48:7006:200:B056:6066:1296:EF0B (talk) 02:00, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
